The western honey bee Apis mellifera is the world's most important managed pollinator. However, globally honey bees have been facing increasing colony losses due to a combination of stress factors. Foremost among these is the invasive mite Varroa destructor, which is the pathogen most commonly linked to colony losses.

Our study sought to analyse the trends among matched orthopaedic surgery applicants to clarify how medical students can best prepare for and assess their chances of a successful orthopaedic residency match. : We used the publicly available National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) tool to gather characteristics for matched and unmatched orthopaedic surgery applicants from 2016 to 2022 and compare the probability of matching for all applicants versus each subgroup of reported applicant characteristics using risk difference (RD) and two-tailed p-values.

Given the high sensitivity of functional analyses to image registration errors, an image registration error scoring tool that can measure submillimeter image registration errors is needed.
Purpose: To propose an image registration error scoring tool, termed λ, whose spatial sensitivity can be used to quantify image registration errors in steep image gradient regions under realistic noise conditions.
Primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a disease of the podocytes and glomerulus, leading to nephrotic syndrome and progressive loss of renal function. One of the most serious aspects is its recurrence of disease in over 30% of patients following allogeneic kidney transplantation, leading to early graft loss. This research investigates the individual genetic predispositions and differences in the immune responses leading to recurrence of FSGS after transplantation.

This study evaluates the influence of sK levels on seven-day mortality and incidence of ventricular arrhythmias in STEMI patients to further improve clinical guidelines and outcomes.
Methods: This retrospective, propensity-matched study analyzed approximately 250,000 acute STEMI patients from 55 major academic medical centers/healthcare organizations (HCOs) in the US Collaborative Network of the TriNetX database.
Introduction: The oral health status of older adults in the United States is a public health crisis and a silent epidemic. Maine's Oral Team-Based Initiative Vital Access to Education (MOTIVATE) Program is an innovative interprofessional oral health program aimed at enhancing oral health education and practice of interprofessional health care teams in nursing homes. Using a blended learning model, a combination of in-person and online learning, this program provides a foundation from which to implement evidenced based oral care in nursing homes.

To address this shortcoming at one large, urban medical school, the Curriculum Committee at Sidney Kimmel Medical College formed a taskforce of students and faculty to evaluate the degree and quality of disability representation in its undergraduate medical education curriculum. Taskforce members solicited input from five community members in various fields of disability advocacy to craft recommendations that reflected this community's vision for disability education in undergraduate medical education.

However they are facing an increasing array of stress factors. These stressors include exposure to pathogens and pesticides, agricultural intensification, and changes in climate, and likely contribute to colony dysfunction and colony losses.

PHA is sequestered in discrete PHA granules, or carbonosomes, and accumulates under conditions of stress, for example, low levels of available nitrogen. The pha locus responsible for PHA metabolism encodes both anabolic and catabolic enzymes, a transcription factor, and carbonosome-localized proteins termed phasins.

Artificial tracing studies are crucial for establishing links between locations where pollutants can rapidly reach the aquifer systems and subsequent receptors, as well as for enhanced understanding of pollutant transport. However, widely used solute artificial tracers do not always move through the subsurface in the same manner as particles and microorganisms, hence may not be ideal proxies for predicting movement of bacterial contaminants.

. To combat the motion artifacts present in traditional 4D-CBCT reconstruction, an iterative technique known as the motion-compensated simultaneous algebraic reconstruction technique (MC-SART) was previously developed. MC-SART employs a 4D-CBCT reconstruction to obtain an initial model, which suffers from a lack of sufficient projections in each bin.

We present an alternative, IMRT-based planning approach that facilitates treatment on Halcyon and Ethos while preserving plan quality.
Materials/methods: Eight breast and regional node cases (four left-sided, four right-sided) were planned for an Ethos machine using a 15-17 field IMRT technique.
Aim: To assess population-level characteristics and post-metastasis survival of people with recurrent metastatic breast cancer (rMBC) during a period when new publicly-subsidised adjuvant and metastatic systemic therapies became available.
Methods: Record linkage study of females in NSW Cancer Registry (NSWCR) diagnosed with non-metastatic breast cancer (BC) in 2001-2002 (C1) and 2006-2007 (C2). We identified first rMBC from NSWCR, administrative hospital records, dispensed medicines and radiotherapy services (2001-2016).

Background: We investigated differences in cumulative incidence of first distant recurrence (DR) following non-metastatic breast cancer over a time period when new adjuvant therapies became available in Australia.
Methods: We conducted a health record linkage study of females with localized (T1-3N0) or regional (T4 or N+) breast cancer in the New South Wales Cancer Registry in 2001 to 2002 and 2006 to 2007. We linked cancer registry records with administrative records from hospitals, dispensed medicines, radiotherapy services, and death registrations to estimate the 9-year cumulative incidence of DR and describe use of adjuvant treatment.
Identifying the origin of faecal pollution in water is needed for effective water management decisions to protect both human health and aquatic ecosystems. Traditionally used indicators of faecal contamination, such as E. coli, only indicate pollution from warm-blooded animals and not the specific source of contamination; hence, more source specific tracers are required.

However, the regional heterogeneity in these biomarkers has not been well documented, yet it is critical to several procedures for lung cancer and COPD. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the interlobar and intralobar heterogeneity of tissue elasticity and study their relationship with COPD severity.

This study aimed to estimate the benefits and harms of regular testing in this context. We constructed Policy1-Prostate, a discrete event microsimulation platform of the natural history of prostate cancer and prostate cancer survival, and PSA testing patterns and subsequent management in Australia.
