While demographic factors like age and sex influence outcomes, the understanding of genetic contributions, particularly the role of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) Val66Met polymorphism, remains limited. Objective: Intolerance of uncertainty (IU) and psychological inflexibility (PI) were shown to be risk factors of traumatic stress (TS) and somatic symptoms (SS) during COVID-19. The present study tested a structural equation model where PI mediated the relationships between IU, TS, and SS based on their theoretical and experimental overlaps. Introduction: Approximately 53% of maternal mortality occurs in the postpartum period, a time with little monitoring and health surveillance. The objective of this study was to test the feasibility, usability, appropriateness, and acceptability of remote low-burden physiologic monitoring of Black postpartum women, using a novel soft wearable patch and home vital sign monitoring for the first 4 weeks postpartum.

Methods: A prospective longitudinal cohort feasibility study of 20 Black postpartum women was conducted using home monitoring equipment and a wearable patch with physiologic sensors measuring temperature, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, electrocardiogram (ECG), heart rate, and respiration twice daily during the first 4 weeks postpartum.

Bariatric surgery is highly effective in achieving weight loss in children and adolescents with severe obesity, however the underlying mechanisms are incompletely understood, and gut microbiome changes are unknown. Here, we show that adolescents exhibit significant gut microbiome and metabolome shifts several months after laparoscopic vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG), with increased alpha diversity and notably with enrichment of oral-associated taxa. To assess causality of the microbiome/metabolome changes in phenotype, pre-VSG and post-VSG stool was transplanted into germ-free mice.

Background And Objectives: Previous studies on sport-related concussion (SRC) may have measured brain injury blood-based biomarker, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), either before or after its peak, potentially underestimating the diagnostic value. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of serum GFAP at 24 hours post-SRC. Secondary objectives included assessing whether the timing of sample collection relative to an Australian football match (with or without SRC) affected GFAP levels, evaluating if combining GFAP with symptoms improved discrimination of SRC compared with symptoms alone, and determining the diagnostic utility of serum neurofilament light (NfL) levels at 24 hours post-SRC.

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) technology has been steadily advancing since the first measurements of human brain activity over 30 years ago. Initially, efforts were focused on increasing the channel count of fNIRS systems and then to moving from sparse to high density arrays of sources and detectors, enhancing spatial resolution through overlapping measurements. Over the last ten years, there have been rapid developments in wearable fNIRS systems that place the light sources and detectors on the head as opposed to the original approach of using fiber optics to deliver the light between the hardware and the head.
