Developing, Piloting and Evaluating a Patient Support Portal for Men With Prostate Cancer in Victoria: An Action Research Study.

Introduction: Men with prostate cancer (PCa) and their support providers face challenges in accessing high-quality, impartial information tailored to their specific needs to enhance their overall care and decision-making. We describe the development, piloting and evaluation of the co-designed web portal 'BroSupPORT'.

Methods: IT teams developed and integrated BroSupPORT into the Victorian Prostate Cancer Outcomes Registry (PCOR-Vic) electronic patient-reported outcome follow-up process.

The imposter phenomenon (IP) is a destructive set of beliefs, traits, and experiences in which high-achieving individuals fail to internalize their accomplishments and falsely perceive themselves as frauds. IP is a function of underrepresentation and contributes to and perpetuates a cycle of low self-worth, perfectionism, and anxiety, all of which negatively affect job performance and reinforce the IP cycle. Mitigating the deleterious effects of IP requires first naming this phenomenon and recognizing the patterns of IP.

Chronic viral mimicry induction following p53 loss promotes immune evasion.

Epigenetic therapies facilitate transcription of immunogenic repetitive elements that cull cancer cells through 'viral mimicry' responses. Paradoxically, cancer-initiating events also facilitate transcription of repetitive elements. Contributions of repetitive element transcription towards cancer initiation, and the mechanisms by which cancer cells evade lethal viral mimicry responses during tumor initiation remain poorly understood.

Equitable health care delivery for adult Nova Scotians: a scoping review protocol.

Objective: The objective of this review is to identify international and Nova Scotian standards of care, CPGs, and policies informing equitable health care.

Introduction: The lack of attention given to intersectional health care needs of diverse populations perpetuates health inequities among under-served groups, creating an urgent need for health care reform globally.

Inclusion Criteria: This scoping review will include standards of care, CPGs, and policies focusing on equity-related health indicators.

Evaluating video-supported layperson CPR compared to a standard training course: A randomized controlled trial.

Background: While just-in-time (JIT) training is associated with time and cost savings, limited evidence directly compares layperson CPR performance using JIT videos to in-person CPR courses. We measured layperson CPR performance using a JIT video compared to an in-person course or no training.

Methods: Adult employees at a professional sports stadium were randomized to perform CPR in a simulated scenario a) after completing an AHA HeartSaver® course, b) using a JIT training video, or c) neither (control).

Beyond cholangiocarcinoma: imaging features of mimicking pathologies in the biliary tract.

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is the second most common primary malignancy of the hepatobiliary system and presents as a heterogeneous disease with three distinct morphological subtypes: mass-forming, periductal-infiltrating, and intraductal-growing, each characterized by distinguishing imaging features. Accurate diagnosis of CCA is challenging due to the overlap of imaging findings with a broad range of benign and malignant conditions. Therefore, it is essential for radiologists to recognize these mimickers and offer a reasonable differential diagnosis, as this has a significant impact on patient management.

A Modified Delphi Process to Achieve Consensus on Social/Administrative Science Topics in Pharmacy Curricula.

Objective: This study aimed to identify a consensus among pharmacy educators regarding relevant social and administrative science (SAS) topic areas and their priorities within pharmacy curricula.

Methods: A modified Delphi process was conducted with members of selected American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy affinity groups as the expert panel. A total of 83 potential topic areas across 12 domains were gathered via an informal literature review.

Tracing the transmission of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales at the patient: ward environmental nexus.

Introduction: Colonisation and infection with Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) in healthcare settings poses significant risks, especially for vulnerable patients. Genomic analysis can be used to trace transmission routes, supporting antimicrobial stewardship and informing infection control strategies. Here we used genomic analysis to track the movement and transmission of CREs within clinical and environmental samples.

Describing COVID-19 immunizations for First Nations people on-reserve in Alberta using real-time integration of point of care and provincial data.

Background: COVID-19 profoundly impacted First Nation peoples. Historically, records of on- and off-reserve vaccine delivery have been fragmented. For the first time in Canada, we aimed to describe complete immunization rates, on- and off-reserve vaccine delivery, for COVID-19 in Alberta, Canada among First Nations on-reserve.

Regional differences in three-dimensional fiber organization, smooth muscle cell phenotype, and contractility in the pregnant mouse cervix.

The orientation and function of smooth muscle in the cervix may contribute to the important biomechanical properties that change during pregnancy. Thus, this study examined the three-dimensional structure, smooth muscle phenotype, and mechanical and contractile functions of the upper and lower cervix of nongravid (not pregnant) and gravid (pregnant) mice. In gravid cervix, we uncovered region-specific changes in the structure and organization of fiber tracts.

The Oxford House Stability Questionnaire: An Effort to Classify Recovery Homes.

Recovery homes are located throughout the United States, with the self-governed Oxford Houses representing one of the largest networks with over 3000 homes. Although there is a growing literature on the characteristics and outcomes of these recovery homes, far less is known about differences among the homes. The current study used a set of characteristics that had been proposed by a leader within the Oxford House recovery movement, and a university research team operationalized them into what is now called the Oxford House Stability Questionnaire.

The evolutionary history of the ancient weevil family Belidae (Coleoptera: Curculionoidea) reveals the marks of Gondwana breakup and major floristic turnovers, including the rise of angiosperms.

The rise of angiosperms to ecological dominance and the breakup of Gondwana during the Mesozoic marked major transitions in the evolutionary history of insect-plant interactions. To elucidate how contemporary trophic interactions were influenced by host plant shifts and palaeogeographical events, we integrated molecular data with information from the fossil record to construct a time tree for ancient phytophagous weevils of the beetle family Belidae. Our analyses indicate that crown-group Belidae originated approximately 138 Ma ago in Gondwana, associated with Pinopsida (conifer) host plants, with larvae likely developing in dead/decaying branches.

Hybrid repair of type A aortic dissection after infrarenal endovascular aortic repair and bilateral iliac branched grafts.

Type A dissection is infrequently reported after infrarenal endovascular aortic repair (EVAR). Here, we present a case of an EVAR with iliac branch endoprosthesis complicated by type A dissection requiring ascending arch repair. After hemiarch repair, the patient was noted to have residual type B dissection, malperfusion of the left renal artery, and compression of the EVAR with left external iliac limb occlusion.

Managing cognitive impairment in people with HIV.

Purpose Of Review: To describe patient-centred multiciplinary management and care of people with HIV presenting with cognitive disorders.

Recent Findings: In the era of effective antiretroviral therapy a comprehensive, multifactorial approach to assessing and managing cognitive impairment in people with HIV is required. The complexity of cognitive disorders in this population demands more than current guidelines offer, which focus primarily on HIV management, overlooking broader clinical, psychological, and social factors.

Unraveling lipid metabolism for acute myeloid leukemia therapy.

Purpose Of Review: The aim of this review is to highlight the importance of lipids' intricate and interwoven role in mediating diverse acute myeloid leukemia (AML) processes, as well as potentially novel lipid targeting strategies. This review will focus on new studies of lipid metabolism in human leukemia, particularly highlighting work in leukemic stem cells (LSCs), where lipids were assessed directly as a metabolite.

Recent Findings: Lipid metabolism is essential to support LSC function and AML survival through diverse mechanisms including supporting energy production, membrane composition, signaling pathways, and ferroptosis.

Collaborative Section-Based DNP Project Faculty Workload Model.

Background: The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree culminates in the DNP project, a scholarly project aimed at enhancing health care systems aligned with national standards. While DNP projects are valued, they pose challenges due to resource-intensive demands including faculty time and effort.

Problem: Faculty workload models related to DNP projects have not kept pace with increasing enrollment and program expectations.

Acute myeloid leukemia drug tolerant persister cells survive chemotherapy by transiently increasing plasma membrane rigidity, that also increases their sensitivity to immune cell killing.

Resistance to chemotherapy remains a major hurdle to the cure of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) patients. Recent studies indicate a minority of malignant cells, termed drug-tolerant persisters (DTPs), stochastically upregulate stress pathways to evade cell death upon acute exposure to chemotherapy without acquiring new genetic mutations. This chemoresistant state is transient and the cells return to baseline after removal of chemotherapy.

A new Col1a1 conditional knock-in mouse model to study osteogenesis imperfecta.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) constitutes a family of bone fragility disorders characterized by both genetic and clinical heterogeneity. Several different mouse models reproduce the classic features of OI, and the most commonly studied carry either a spontaneous or genetically induced pathogenic variant in the Col1a1 or Col1a2 gene. When OI is caused by primary alterations of type I collagen, it represents a systemic connective tissue disease that, in addition to the skeleton, also affects several extra-skeletal tissues and organs, such as skin, teeth, lung, heart, and others, where the altered type I collagen is also expressed.
