: Antifungal resistance to azoles, coupled with the increasing prevalence of infections, represents a significant public health challenge and has driven the search for new natural compounds that can act as alternatives or adjuvants to the current antifungals. Ellagic acid (EA) has demonstrated antifungal activity; however, its effects are not fully understood. In this study, we investigated the in vitro anti- activity of EA and its ability to potentiate the effects of fluconazole (FLZ) on : The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of EA was determined by broth microdilution and its interaction with FLZ was assessed using a checkerboard assay.

Objective: To assess the biomechanical parameters of intact tibiotarsi (INT) and tibiotarsi with a 5-mm segmental diaphyseal defect repaired using four osteosynthesis techniques: a locking plate (LP), a plate-rod combination, an external skeletal fixator (one end-threaded positive-profile pin per fragment) with an intramedullary pin tie-in (TIF 1), and an external skeletal fixator (two end-threaded positive-profile pins per fragment) with an intramedullary pin tie-in (TIF 2).
Study Design: Sixty tibiotarsi from 30 adult laying hens were allocated into five groups for nondestructive dynamic torsion and four-point bending tests, followed by failure tests. Nondestructive dynamic tests evaluated stiffness over time in torsion and bending.
Background: Limited information is available about functioning and related impairments of children and adolescents with Cerebral Palsy (CP) in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) like Brazil. The aim of this study is to describe the characteristics, functioning, and impairments of Brazilian children and adolescents with CP.
Methods: Cross-sectional preliminary study as part of the PartiCipa Brazil multicentered cohort study.
This study investigated the effects of two physical exercise programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Twenty-one participants were assigned to an indoor group (IG, n = 7; 24-week gym intervention with machine), an outdoor group (OG, n = 7; 24-week outdoor intervention with low-cost materials) or a control group. The outcomes assessed included quality of life, dementia, and functional capacity.

Infection is one of the main causes of orthopedic implants failure, with antibiotic-resistant bacteria playing a crucial role in this outcome. In this work, antimicrobial nanogels were developed to be applied in situ as implant coating to prevent orthopedic-device-related infections. To that regard, a broad-spectrum antimicrobial peptide, Dhvar5, was grafted onto chitosan via thiol-norbornene "photoclick" chemistry.

Steud leaf extract, and their impact on maternal reproductive and fetal development in diabetic rats. For this, adult female Wistar rats (100 days of life) received streptozotocin (40 mg/Kg, intraperitoneal) for induction of diabetes, were mated and distributed into four groups: Nondiabetic; Nondiabetic given B.

Until now, cognitive results classified patients as impaired and not impaired. With this dichotomous approach, it is difficult to identify, in a heterogeneous group of patients with cognitive impairment, which cognitive domain(s) are most altered.

Background: The Positive Aspects of Caregiving (PAC) scale is used to assess psychosocial benefits provided to caregivers by the task of caring. The PAC scale consists of nine items, assessed using a five-point Likert scale, with higher values indicating greater positive perceptions and gains from the caregiving experience.
Objective: To translate and culturally adapt the PAC scale for informal Brazilian caregivers of people with dementia.
Introduction: The inflammatory response after spinal cord injury (SCI) is an important contributor to secondary damage. Infiltrating macrophages can acquire a spectrum of activation states, however, the microenvironment at the SCI site favors macrophage polarization into a pro-inflammatory phenotype, which is one of the reasons why macrophage transplantation has failed.
Methods: In this study, we investigated the therapeutic potential of the macrophage secretome for SCI recovery.
The prevalence of mental disorders in adolescents has a considerable impact on daily life, restricting tasks and diminishing overall quality of life while potentially leading to stigmatization. This study aims to measure the impact of a mental health literacy intervention program, called "Bicho de 7 Cabeças" project, in b-learning format, on the increase of knowledge and the decrease of stigma in young people from Póvoa de Varzim, in Portugal. A quasi-experimental study was conducted, from November 2022 to May 2023, involving an experimental group ("Bicho de 7 Cabeças" protocol) and an active control group (informational brochures), utilizing a pre-test/post-test design.

MSCs neuroregenerative role may relate to the contents of their secretome in anti-inflammatory cytokines and growth-permissive factors. We propose using the secretome of MSCs isolated from the adipose tissue-adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ASCs) as a cell-free based therapy for SCI.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFDental zirconias have been broadly utilized in dentistry due to their high mechanical properties and biocompatibility. Although initially introduced in dentistry as an infrastructure material, the high rate of technical complications related to veneered porcelain has led to significant efforts to improve the optical properties of dental zirconias, allowing for its monolithic indication. Modifications in the composition, processing methods/parameters, and the increase in the yttrium content and cubic phase have been presented as viable options to improve zirconias' translucency.

However, living more years does not mean living better, leading to the need for research on comorbidities associated with the aging process. Associated with this process are the physical characteristics most prevalent in an individual with IDD: low levels of all physical capacities, the accumulation of central fat, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and hypertension, variables considered to be some of the main risk factors of the onset of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, and variables that can negatively impact quality of life (QoL).

Methods: Twenty-one PT interns (19 females; 25 ± 2 years of age) and seven caregivers (seven females; 40 ± 6 years of age) of seven children with disabilities (five females; 10 ± 4 years of age; five children diagnosed with cerebral palsy) responded to an online questionnaire about their experience with the telehealth programme. Participant attendance and frequency of objective responses were reported descriptively; open-ended responses were analysed qualitatively and grouped according to broad themes.
Background: Concomitant medications may potentially affect the outcome of cancer patients. In this sub-analysis of the ARON-2 real-world study (NCT05290038), we aimed to assess the impact of concomitant use of proton pump inhibitors (PPI), statins, or metformin on outcome of patients with metastatic urothelial cancer (mUC) receiving second-line pembrolizumab.
Methods: We collected data from the hospital medical records of patients with mUC treated with pembrolizumab as second-line therapy at 87 institutions from 22 countries.

Considering the eligibility criteria, a final sample of nine articles was obtained. For BMI, the -value obtained to test the null hypothesis (difference between means is zero), showed a = -2.
