Breaking the Boundaries of the Goldschmidt Tolerance Factor with Ethylammonium Lead Iodide Perovskite Nanocrystals.

We report the synthesis of ethylammonium lead iodide (EAPbI) colloidal nanocrystals as another member of the lead halide perovskites family. The insertion of an unusually large -cation (274 pm in diameter) in the perovskite structure, hitherto considered unlikely due to the unfavorable Goldschmidt tolerance factor, results in a significantly larger lattice parameter compared to the Cs-, methylammonium- and formamidinium-based lead halide perovskite homologues. As a consequence, EAPbI nanocrystals are highly unstable, evolving to a nonperovskite δ-EAPbI polymorph within 1 day.

Although the incidence of postoperative infections in laparoscopic cholecystectomy is low, serious postoperative surgical site infections are still reported. Hepatic abscesses, particularly fungal, can occur post-cholecystectomy leading to significant mortality and morbidity.

Are Cases of Nonvisualized Appendix on Ultrasound Not Actually Appendicitis? Single-Center Results.

Background: Ultrasonography (USG), which is used as the first step in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis (AA), sometimes cannot visualize the appendix. The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze the clinical, imaging, and pathology results of these cases and to provide information to clinicians about the next step to be taken.

Methods: The study was performed retrospectively between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021.

This study investigates disruptions in functional brain networks in Parkinson's Disease (PD), using advanced modeling and machine learning. Functional networks were constructed using the Nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (NARDL) model, which captures nonlinear and asymmetric dependencies between regions of interest (ROIs). Key network metrics and information-theoretic measures were extracted to classify PD patients and healthy controls (HC), using deep learning models, with explainability methods employed to identify influential features.

Accelerometer-measured physical activity patterns in daily life and their association with factors of sedentary behavior in people with epilepsy.

Objectives: Being physically active is important, but people with epilepsy (PWE) tend to have a sedentary lifestyle. There is limited evidence about physical activity patterns in PWE using objective measures. The aims of this study were: (1) to examine the physical activity patterns of PWE, (2) compare activity patterns between PWE in terms of drug-resistant epilepsy and medically controlled epilepsy with age- and sex-matched healthy controls; and (3) explore the association between physical activity patterns and body function and structure, activity and participation, and quality of life of PWE.

Due to their tunable energy levels, ability for intense light absorption, stability and ease of purification, non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) have significantly contributed to the progress of organic photovoltaics (OPVs). Herein, a series of newly designed and synthesized NFAs specifically tailored are presented for OPV applications. A new class of NFAs possessing carbazole, fluorene, silafluorene derivatives, and benzothiadiazoles are synthesized.

Postoperative Analgesic Efficacy of Clavipectoral Plane Block and Serratus Posterior Superior Intercostal Plane Block Combination in Clavicle Surgeries: A Report of 10 Cases.

This case series included 10 patients who underwent clavicular fracture surgery under general anesthesia. A novel analgesic approach combining 2 distinct nerve block techniques-serratus posterior superior intercostal plane block (SPSIPB) and clavipectoral plane block (CPPB)-was used for postoperative pain management. SPSIPB provided sensory blockade for the innervation of the clavicular skin, whereas CPPB targeted the clavipectoral fascia.

Absolute, not perceived, delay modulates agency judgement: Evidence for cognitive impenetrability of sense of agency.

The sense of agency, which refers to awareness of causing events, is consistently influenced by the time interval between actions and their outcomes such that longer delays diminish the perceived strength of the agency. This study investigated whether the sense of agency is modulated by the distance between experienced delays or by their subjective discriminability, which is known to be subject to Weber's law (discriminability being a function of ratios rather than absolute differences between time intervals). To this end, participants executed keypress actions leading to outcomes at varying delays.

Combining the CRISPR Activation and Interference Capabilities Using dCas9 and G-Quadruplex Structures.

We demonstrate that both CRISPR interference and CRISPR activation can be achieved at RNA and protein levels by targeting the vicinity of a putative G-quadruplex forming sequence (PQS) in the promoter with nuclease-dead Cas9 (dCas9). Invasive aspergillosis is a rare but severe fungal infection primarily affecting immunocompromised individuals. The Disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has introduced new complexities in managing aspergillosis due to the widespread use of corticosteroids for treating COVID-19-related respiratory distress, which can increase susceptibility to fungal infections. Here, we present a challenging case of progressive cerebral aspergillosis complicated by cavernous sinus thrombosis (CST) in a 67-year-old male with a history of COVID-19.

Objective: Annexin-1 (ANXA1), a member of the annexin family, plays a role in the resolution of inflammation and the regulation of anti-inflammatory responses, while annexin-2 (ANXA2) is involved in the initiation of the inflammatory responses. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of annexin family (ANXA1 and ANXA2) in periodontal disease.

Methods: Healthy participants (n:25) and stage III, grade B periodontitis (n:25) patients enrolled for this study.

Research have suggested oxidative stress and inflammation as candidate pathogenic mechanisms in CBSD. This study aims to evaluate mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress biomarkers in cystathionine beta-synthase deficiency (CBSD) patients, which may aid in understanding the pathogenesis of CBSD and improving treatment.

IKKα is a multifunctional serine/threonine kinase that controls various biological processes, either dependent on or independent of its kinase activity. However, the importance of the kinase function of IKKα in human physiology remains unknown since no biallelic variants disrupting its kinase activity have been reported. In this study, we present a homozygous germline missense variant in the kinase domain of IKKα, which is present in three children from two Turkish families.

Variable clinical phenotypes of alpha-methylacyl-CoA racemase deficiency: Report of four cases and review of the literature.

Alpha-methylacyl-CoA-racemase (AMACR) deficiency (MIM#604489) is a peroxisomal disorder resulting in the accumulation of pristanic acid, dihydroxycholestanoic acid (DHCA), and trihydroxycholestanoic acid (THCA), with variable clinical features and age of onset from infancy to late adulthood. The purpose of this report is to define clinical variations and follow-up data in AMACR deficiency emphasizing treatment with a review of cases reported in the literature. Here, four patients, from two families, diagnosed with AMACR deficiency and showing phenotypic heterogeneity are presented.

Pyloric index, a new parameter: predicting perioperative prognosis in neonates with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis.

Purpose: Delays in the diagnosis and treatment of infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS) may lead to laboratory and clinical decompensation in infants. The aim of this study was to determine whether pyloric measurement parameters can be effectively used in the clinical prognosis of IHPS by evaluating the relationship between pyloric dimensions on ultrasonographic evaluation at the time of presentation and clinical and laboratory parameters in infants with pyloric stenosis.

Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted on 122 infants who were followed up with the diagnosis of IHPS in our neonatal clinic and operated on by a pediatric surgeon between January 2005 and December 2020.

The impact of Philosophy for Children (P4C) activities on enhancing the speaking skills of gifted students.

The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of Philosophy for Children (P4C) activities integrated into Turkish lessons on the speaking skills of gifted students. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected through interviews and various scales, employing a mixed-method design. The results indicated that students had positive feelings about P4C, including appreciation, curiosity, surprise, excitement, self-confidence, and empathy.
