Fourth branchial anomalies are extremely rare and are often misdiagnosed. A recurrent history of anterior neck discharges or infections since childhood should raise a high clinical suspicion of branchial fistula and necessitate a thorough clinical, endoscopic, and radiological evaluation. We report a rare case of right-sided fourth branchial fistula in a middle-aged lady who was referred to us for recurrent right neck infections since childhood and had received multiple courses of antibiotics and drainage of abscesses.

Approach: To revise an essential package of health services that stakeholders could support and that aligned with stakeholders' financial and technical resources, the federal health ministry invited all key stakeholders in 2020 to participate in the revision process of the essential package. Progress and experiences of implementing an integrated disease surveillance and response system in Somalia; 2016-2023.

Introduction: In 2021, a regional strategy for integrated disease surveillance was adopted by member states of the World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Region. But before then, member states including Somalia had made progress in integration of their disease surveillance systems. We report on the progress and experiences of implementing an integrated disease surveillance and response system in Somalia between 2016 and 2023.

The abnormal vascular structures of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) often cause severe anemia due to recurrent hemorrhage, but HHT causal genes do not predict the severity of hematological complications. We tested for chance inheritance and clinical associations of rare deleterious variants in which loss-of-function causes bleeding or hemolytic disorders in the general population. In double-blinded analyses, all 104 patients with HHT from a single reference center recruited to the 100 000 Genomes Project were categorized on new MALO (more/as-expected/less/opposite) sub-phenotype severity scales, and whole genome sequencing data were tested for high impact variants in 75 HHT-independent genes encoding coagulation factors, or platelet, hemoglobin, erythrocyte enzyme, and erythrocyte membrane constituents.

Direct and Indirect Costs of Asthma Burden in Abu Dhabi: A Retrospective Analysis of Insurance Claims Data from 2015 to 2018.

Purpose: Asthma causes a high economic burden on the health-care system. Previous research on the cost of asthma in Abu Dhabi was in 2011 and revealed high medical costs. This work aimed to estimate both direct and indirect costs of asthma with trend analysis over a period of four years.

Prevalence and burden of obstructive lung disease in the urban poor population of Ottawa, Canada: a community-based mixed-method, observational study.

Background: Globally the burden of Obstructive Lung Diseases (OLD) is growing, however its effect on urban poor populations with the high prevalence of tobacco dependence is virtually unknown. The purpose of this project is to estimate the prevalence and burden of OLD in the urban, low-income populations of Ottawa, Canada.

Methods: The study presented in this paper was part of the PROMPT (Management and Point-of-Care for Tobacco Dependence) project; a prospective cohort study in a community-based setting (n = 80) with meaningful Patient Engagement from design to dissemination.

The data on growth performance, survival and feed utilization of eel elver from the formulated diet test results are also presented here. Four formulated diets and one commercial feed were tested for the eel elver.

Mindfulness improves inflammatory biomarker levels in older adults with mild cognitive impairment: a randomized controlled trial.

Few randomized controlled trials investigated the effects of mindfulness intervention on older adults diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Furthermore, there have been hypotheses and theoretical mechanisms on the benefits of mindfulness intervention on biomarkers of stress, inflammation, and neuroplasticity implicated in MCI that warrant empirical evidence. We conducted a pilot randomized controlled trial to examine whether Mindful Awareness Practice (MAP) improved biomarker levels in older adults with MCI.

In this study, we assess the driving abilities of patients after LVAD implantation.

Resveratrol, a natural compound found in red wine and various vegetables, has drawn increasing interest due to its reported benefit in cardiovascular protection, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancer therapy. Atypical esophageal vascular lesions observed in liver cirrhosis.

Chronic liver disease is known to be associated with several vascular alterations including portal hypertension and hepato-pulmonary insufficiency. We report a case of esophageal vascular lesions resembling spider naevi in a patient with nonalcoholic cirrhosis who underwent an upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy. We observed the presence of multiple white round elevations, 5-6 mm in size, with radiating thin-walled vessels, in the middle and distal esophagus.
