Background: Intrauterine perfusion insufficiency induced by transient maternal hypotension has been reported to be associated with foetal brain malformations. However, the effects of maternal hypotension on apoptotic processes in the foetal brain have not been investigated experimentally during the intrauterine period.

Aims: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of transient maternal hypotension on apoptotic cell death in the intrauterine foetal brain.

Aim: Secondary brain injury starts after the initial traumatic impact and marked by an increase in the intracellular calcium concentrations. This cascadeeventually results in membrane lipid peroxidation and neuronal cell death.

Material And Methods: We investigated the neuro-protective effects of nimodipine and melatonin in 38 rats after 6 hours of head trauma using the cortical impact injury model of Marmarou.

We hypothesized that an osseous tissue can be prefabricated with a peripheral nerve by vascular induction, and by using a rat model, we tested this hypothesis.Twenty Wistar rats were used in the prefabricated neuro-osseous flap study. Bilateral sciatic nerves were placed linearly within the medullary cavities of the femurs.

Aims: To bring further insight into the mechanism of cyclosporine A (CsA)-induced hepatotoxicity, the acute effect of CsA on local hepatic blood flow (LHBF) and its association with systemic hemodynamics, histopathological and biochemical indicators of liver toxicity were studied in guinea pigs in vivo. The association of endothelin (ET) and/or Cremophor-EL (C-EL, vehicle in parenteral CsA preparation) with CsA effects was also investigated.

Main Methods: Animals were assigned into five groups; control, CsA, C-EL, Bosentan (non-selective ET receptor antagonist)+CsA, and BQ-123 (ET(A) receptor antagonist)+CsA.

Aim Of The Study: The present study was undertaken to evaluate the wound healing effects of the four chief saponins of Astragalus species [cycloastragenol (CA), astragaloside IV (AG), cyclocephaloside I (CCI) and cyclocanthoside E (CCE)].

Material And Methods: Effects of cell viability and proliferation of the isolated compounds were evaluated by the MTT assay on human keratinocyte. The wound healing activity was studied by using in vitro wound healing, proliferation and migration scratch assay.

Between 1983 and 2008, prenatal diagnostic procedures for identifying hemoglobinopathies were performed in 947 at-risk fetuses. Seventy-six percent of the fetuses were at risk for β-thalassemia major and 16% for sickle cell anemia; only a small percentage (7%) were at risk for compound heterozygosity of β-thalassemia and an abnormal hemoglobin of the β chain. The results of the study showed that β gene mutations in hemoglobinopathies have a very broad spectrum.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine if temporary luting cements used with provisional restorations alter the expression of cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) in human dental pulp.

Study Design: Twenty-five healthy human premolars and third molars scheduled to be extracted for orthodontic reasons were randomly assigned to 5 experimental groups. Group 1 included untreated teeth as negative control.

We investigated the effect of different surgical procedures on cartilage healing, using auricular cartilage as a model, which would be useful to create a rationale for septal cartilage surgery. Different kinds of manipulations were performed on the auricular cartilage of six female New Zealand white rabbits. Histopathological investigations were performed under light microscopy 4 months postoperatively.

Background: Decreased mesenteric blood flow and multiple organ injury due to free radicals are the consequences of septic shock. Since the blockade of endothelin receptors was reported to exert beneficial effects, we investigated the effects of tezosentan, a novel dual endothelin receptor antagonist, in two different experimental models of septic shock induced either by the injection of Escherichia coli endotoxin (ETX, 20 mg/kg, i.p.

Objective: Studies have demonstrated that restorative procedures can initiate pulpal inflammation. Adhesion molecules on endothelial cells mediate the leukocyte-endothelium interaction, which is the fundamental event of inflammation. The aim of this study was to evaluate possible changes in the endothelial cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) of human dental pulp with tooth preparation, and after the application of one-step self-etch adhesive.

Anticancer agents may cause side effects and some of which may be dose dependant. It is important for clinicians to see the effects on tissues histopathologically. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of topotecan (hycamtin), a topoisomerase I inhibiting anticancer agent, on nasal, buccal, and lingual mucosa of rabbits.

Background: Clarifying the normal distribution of activation antigens will contribute to database construction studies of monoclonal-antibody-based therapies in endometrial disorders.

Methods: In this study, endometrial tissue samples obtained during proliferative and secretory phases and decidual samples of early pregnancies were immunostained by the monoclonal antibodies anti-CD26, anti-CD30, anti-CD70, anti-CD71, and anti-CD98 using the indirect immunoperoxidase method.

Results: CD26 is expressed on the glandular epithelium in the endometrium and decidua.

Recently, fat injection has gained favor among plastic surgeons for soft tissue augmentation. However, fat injections lose 50% of their volume after 1 year. The profession is in need of an injectable bulking material that gives a long-lasting improvement.

Cell adhesion molecules and extracellular matrix molecules have important roles in cell migration and connection. Their developmental expression has not been fully described in humans. In this report, these molecules were examined by immunohistochemistry in frontal tissue samples from 14- to 28-week-old fetuses aborted for obstetric reasons (n = 20) and four fetuses with nervous system abnormalities.

Some thiazolo[4,5-d]pyrimidine-7(6H)-one derivatives were evaluated in vivo for their analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. The results were compared with that of acetyl salicylic acid and phenylbutazone. Compounds 3b and 3h were the most active in the anti-inflammatory paw edema inhibition test.

Objectives: Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) has been applied in sialolithiasis as a new treatment modality. The aim of this experimental study is to investigate the local effects of electrohydraulic ESWL applied to the right submandibular gland of the rats.

Methods: This prospective study was conveyed in four groups; groups I, II, III and IV; each group consisting of 20, 20, 18 and 9 rats, respectively, with a randomized distribution.

In case of bulk loss of tissue or non-healing wounds such as burns, trauma, diabetic, decubitus and venous stasis ulcers, a proper wound dressing is needed to cover the wound area, protect the damaged tissue, and if possible to activate the cell proliferation and stimulate the healing process. In this study, synthesis of a novel polymeric bilayer wound dressing containing epidermal growth-factor (EGF) -loaded microspheres was aimed. For this purpose, a natural, nontoxic and biocompatible material, gelatin, was chosen as the underlying layer and various porous matrices in sponge form were prepared from gelatin by freeze-drying technique.
