A new library of hybrid compounds that combine the functional parts of glibenclamide and pioglitazone was designed and developed. Compounds were screened for their antihyperglycemic effects on the glucose tolerance curve. This approach provided a single molecule that optimizes the pharmacological activities of two drugs used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) and that have distinct biological activities, potentially minimizing the adverse effects of the original drugs.

Methods: Cross-sectional study, with a sample of 172 participants selected and collected through social media. To assess the predictors of unprotected sexual practices, the Poisson regression model was used.
Air pollution is the leading cause of the global burden of disease from the environment, entailing substantial economic consequences. International shipping is a significant source of NO, SO, CO and PM, which can cause known negative health impacts. Thus, this study aimed to estimate the health impacts and the associated external costs of ship-related air pollution in the Iberian Peninsula for 2015.

Temperatures of 30-50°C were used for the heat activation of PS. In the case of UVA/PS, the effects of [PS] and specific photon emission rate (E) were studied through a Doehlert design coupled with statistical analysis and response surface methodology.

Researchers quickly advanced in research to try to understand this COVID-19 and sough solutions for the front-line professionals fighting this fatal disease. One of the tools to aid in the detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of this disease is computed tomography (CT).

They cause several harmful effects on human health. Regulatory Norm 7 (1978) provides that, in Brazil, biological monitoring of toluene and xylene is carried out by measuring the urinary metabolites hippuric acid (HA) and methylhippuric acid (MHA), respectively.

Nuclear medicine is the greatest theranostics protagonist, relying on radioactive tracers for imaging biologic phenomena and delivering ionizing radiation to the tissues that take up those tracers. The concept has gained importance with the growth of personalized medicine, allowing customized management for diseases, refining patient selection, better predicting responses, reducing toxicity, and estimating prognosis.

We aimed to determine the characteristics that distinguish glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) from osteoarthritis (OA) and normal cartilage and from men and women. Cartilage samples from 30 patients subjected to total joint arthroplasty secondary to OA or fracture (control) were evaluated, and the GAG content (μg/mg dry cartilage) after proteolysis was determined by densitometry, using agarose-gel electrophoresis. Relative percentages of carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and sulfur (S) in GAGs were determined by elemental microanalysis, as well as the zeta potential.

Oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and emtricitabine (TDF/FTC) is highly effective in avoiding new infections in men, but protection has only been shown to be moderate in women. Such differences have been associated, at least partially, to poor drug penetration of the lower female genital tract and the need for strict adherence to continuous daily oral intake of TDF/FTC.

Legislation has emerged that seeks to articulate all interests at stake, balancing the need for data flow from EU countries with protecting personal data: the General Data Protection Regulation. One of the mechanisms established by this new law to strengthen the individual's control over their data is the so-called "right to be forgotten", the right to obtain from the controller the erasure of records.

The Raman signal associated with the vibrational modes of the sulfur chain is observed when it is confined by small-diameter metallic nanotubes. Moreover, a strong enhancement of the Raman signal is observed for excitation energies corresponding to the formation of excited nanotube-chain-hybrid electronic states.

With the evolution of the HO research field, synthesis of the knowledge and previous discoveries has become an important task for its advancement. In this study, a literature review based on bibliometric mapping techniques was carried out in order to identify the HO intellectual structure.

With appropriate treatment, patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness can survive for years. Unless an advance directive exists, the treating clinicians can authorize withdrawal of clinically assisted nutrition and hydration for these patients, based on best interests.

To evaluate postoperative pain, using the visual analog scale (VAS), in patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) and receiving intra-articular anesthetic solutions. The present is a randomized clinical trial with a sample of 48 patients divided into 4 groups: Group I (n = 12) - 20 mL of saline solution (control); Group II (n = 12) - 20 mL of 0.5% bupivacaine; Group III (n = 12) - 20 mL of 0.

However, the growing demand for animal proteins will not be sustainable due to their low conversion efficiency and high environmental footprint. Specific consumers' dietary restrictions and modern trends emphasize the importance of finding alternative sustainable non-animal sources to meet future food (and, in particular, protein) global needs.

Nurses working in palliative care are at risk of burnout. The Copenhagen Burnout Inventory was used to determine burnout levels of nurses working in the Portuguese national network of palliative care. We evaluated the contribution of personal, work, and COVID-19 variables in three burnout subclasses: personal, work, and patient-related.
