Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines the antibacterial properties of four types of periodontal bone graft materials: Hydroxyapatite, B TCP, Bioactive glass, and Calcium Phosphate, in relation to their effectiveness in preventing bacterial growth during dental grafting procedures.
  • - Testing involved a standardized bacterial culture assay to measure each material's antibacterial activity, with results showing Hydroxyapatite (Material A) had the highest inhibition of bacterial growth, followed by Bioactive glass (Material C), Calcium Phosphate (Material D), and B TCP (Material B).
  • - The conclusion highlights that Hydroxyapatite's strong antibacterial properties could lead to better clinical outcomes by minimizing the risk of infections after periodontal grafting, suggesting a need for further research to explore these effects

BACKGROUND Acetazolamide (ACTZ) is commonly used in the prevention and treatment of various clinical conditions, and anuric acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of its known life-threatening complications. CASE REPORT We hereby report the case of a middle-aged man known to have compensated heart failure and hypertension with previously normal kidney function, who received a total dose of 2250mg of ACTZ over 3 days after cataract surgery. One week after the operation, he presented with anuria and severe bilateral renal colic, as well as progressively worsening kidney function and metabolic profile, which eventually required hemodialysis prior to recovery.
