Bonding effectiveness of multi-step adhesive resin cements to CAD/CAM blocks: impact of thermal cycling and surface treatment methods.

Background: To investigate the effects of thermal cycling and surface treatment methods on the bonding effectiveness of multi-step resin cements to CAD/CAM blocks.

Methods: A total of 198 slices, 66 each from CAD/CAM blocks (feldspathic ceramic: Vitablocs TriLuxe Forte, V; resin matrix ceramics (RMCs): Cerasmart, C; and Shofu Block HC, S), were obtained and randomly divided into two subgroups for etching with hydrofluoric acid (HFA) and sandblasting with AlO (SB). After the surface treatments, one etched and one sandblasted sample of each CAD/CAM block was observed via SEM analysis at 500× magnification.

The Effects of Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter-2 Inhibitors on Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator Shocks in Heart Failure Patients Undergoing Diuretic Therapy.

Objective: Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) are the standard treatment for patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF ≤35%) to reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death. Loop diuretics can cause electrolyte imbalances, leading to an increased incidence of ICD shocks. Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) have shown cardiovascular benefits in patients with heart failure (HF), but their effects on ventricular arrhythmias and ICD shocks, particularly in patients receiving different doses of loop diuretics, are not fully understood.

Background: Diabetes foot infection is a very important public health problem that causes serious health problems, mortality, and high health expenditures, and is one of the most important complications of diabetes mellitus. There are concerns that approaches such as limited personal visits to doctors, avoidance of hospitals, and restrictions on nonemergency surgical procedures during the coronavirus disease of 2019 pandemic pose a threat to those with diabetic foot problems, including diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), ischemia, and infection, resulting in increased limb loss and mortality.

Methods: This multicenter, retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted in 14 tertiary care hospitals from various regions of Turkey.

This review examines the dynamic mechanisms underlying cellular signaling, communication, and adhesion via transient, nano-scale, liquid-like molecular assemblies on the plasma membrane (PM). Traditional views posit that stable, solid-like molecular complexes perform these functions. However, advanced imaging reveals that many signaling and scaffolding proteins only briefly reside in these molecular complexes and that micron-scale protein assemblies on the PM, including cell adhesion structures and synapses, are likely made of archipelagoes of nanoliquid protein islands.

Effect of post-gastrulation exposure to acrylamide on chick embryonic development.

The critical developmental stages of the embryo are strongly influenced by the dietary composition of the mother. Acrylamide is a food contaminant that can form in carbohydrate-rich foods that are heat-treated. The aim of this study was to investigate the toxicity of a relatively low dose of acrylamide on the development of the neural tube in the early stage chick embryos.

Improvement of neuronal and cognitive functions following treatment with 3',4' dihydroxyflavonol in experimental focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats.

Introduction: Ischemia/reperfusion is a pathological condition by the restoration of perfusion and oxygenation following a period of restricted blood flow to an organ. To address existing uncertainty in the literature regarding the effects of 3', 4'-dihydroxy flavonol (DiOHF) on cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, our study aims to investigate the impact of DiOHF on neurological parameters, apoptosis (Caspase-3), aquaporin 4 (AQP4), and interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels in an experimental rat model of brain ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Materials/methods: A total of 28 Wistar-albino male rats were used in this study.

Anti-Inflammatory Effect of Dental Pulpa Mesenchymal Stem Cell Exosomes Loaded Mucoadhesive Hydrogel on Mice with Dental Nickel Hypersensitivity.

In this study, the anti-inflammatory effect of dental pulp mesenchymal stem cell (MSCs) exosomes loaded to mucoadhesive hydrogel is investigated in a dental nickel hypersensitivity murine model. After culture of dental pulp MSCs in the third passage MSCs are loaded to a mucoadhesive hydrogel based on chitosan, cross-linked with genipin and modified with catechol groups. A dental nickel hypersensitivity model is created by administering NiCl and 10 µg mL lipopolysaccharide to 4-6 week-old Balb-c mice by intradermal injection.

Four‑Dimensional Echocardiographic Evaluation of Cardiac Iron Overload in Patients with Beta-Thalassemia Major.

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging is the gold standard to detect cardiac iron overload in patients with beta-thalassemia. The aim of this study was to evaluate cardiac iron overload using four-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography in thalassemia patients with and without cardiac involvement detected by T2* value and to compare the two techniques. This cross-sectional and observational study was conducted in 44 patients diagnosed with thalassemia major.

TASL Practice Guidance on the Clinical Assessment and Management of Patients with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a multisystem disease and is significantly associated with obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. NAFLD has become the most prevalent chronic liver disease in Western countries, and the proportion of NAFLD-related cirrhosis among patients on liver transplantation waiting lists has increased. In light of the accumulated data about NAFLD, and to provide a common approach with multi-disciplines dealing with the subject, it has become necessary to create new guidance for diagnosing and treating NAFLD.

The relationship between the use of nucleos(t)ide analogs and metabolic parameters in patients with chronic hepatitis B.

Objective: In the treatment of chronic hepatitis-B (CHB), although viral replication load is reduced with the use of nucleos(t)ide analogs, the risk of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains. We aimed to investigate the relationship between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and CHB of nucleos(t)ide analogs, which are effective in mortality-morbidity.

Patients And Methods: In patients who applied to the gastroenterology outpatient clinic between 2021 and 2022, we compared inactive HBsAg-positive patients who did not receive treatment with nucleos(t)ide analogs [entecavir (ETV), lamivudine (LAM), tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), tenofovir alafenamide (TAF)] and medical treatment.

Comparison of ıntracanal ozone and low-level laser therapy on postoperative pain in vital teeth with symptomatic apical periodontitis:placebo-controlled randomize trial.

The aim of this study was to compare the effect of ozone and low-level-laser therapy (LLLT) on postoperative pain after root canal treatment in symptomatic apical periodontitis on vital teeth. Eighty patients were divided into four groups using a web program as follows: LLLT placebo (mock laser therapy), LLLT, Ozone placebo (mock ozonated water irrigation), and Ozone. Postoperative pain levels for 7 days after treatment and percussion pain levels at the 7th day were recorded on the visual analog scale.

Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked, lysosomal glycosphingolipid storage disorder that occurs very rarely. Cardiac involvement may comprise of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), arrhythmias, conduction abnormalities, heart failure and valvular abnormalities. The goal of this study was to conduct gene analysis for FD in patients suffering from unexplained LVH.

Is the use of Tenofovir Dipivoxil fumarate effective and safe in preventing vertical transmission in pregnant women with chronic HBV with high viral load?

Objective: In our country, transmission from mother to baby is the most common form of transmission of viral hepatitis B. A high viral load in the mother and HBeAg positivity pose the greatest risk of transmission from mother to baby. The best way to prevent this is to try to eliminate the viral load in the mother by using a strong antiviral such as prenatal TDF in mothers with a high viral load during pregnancy.

The Role of Serum Adhesion Molecules s-ICAM-1 and s-VCAM-1 in Chronic Otitis Media Pathogenesis: A Prospective Controlled Study.

The aim of this study was to determine the levels of soluble intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (s-ICAM-1) and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule- 1 (s-VCAM-1) in patients with chronic otitis media (COM) according to the disease profile and to compare with ears without otitis media. Eighty-nine patients had ear surgery were included in the study prospectively. 78 patients who underwent tympanomastoidectomy included in the study group and 11 patients who underwent exploratory tympanotomy included in the control group prospectively.

Repair bond strength of different CAD-CAM ceramics after various surface treatments combined with laser irradiation.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different surface treatments combined with laser irradiation on the shear bond strength of different CAD-CAM ceramics to composite resin. A total of hundred forty-seven ceramic specimens with thicknesses of 2.5 mm were prepared from three different CAD-CAM ceramics (an yttrium oxide partially stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZP); a zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate glass ceramic (ZLS); and a lithium disilicate-strengthened lithium aluminosilicate glass ceramic (LD-LAS)) and subjected to seven groups of treatment (n = 7): (1) control (no treatment), (2) Er:YAG laser irradiation, (3) Nd:YAG laser irradiation, (4) etching with hydrofluoric acid (HFA), (5) Er:YAG + HFA, (6) Nd:YAG + HFA, and (7) sandblasting.
