Background: Sequelae of COVID-19 in people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) have not been characterised. We explored whether COVID-19 is associated with an increased risk of disease activity, disability worsening, neuropsychological distress and cognitive dysfunction during the 18-24 months following SARS-COV-2 infection.

Methods: We enrolled 174 PwMS with history of COVID-19 (MS-COVID) between March 2020 and March 2021 and compared them to an age, sex, disease duration, Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), and a line of treatment-matched group of 348 PwMS with no history of COVID-19 in the same period (MS-NCOVID).

Despite being a common issue in people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS), sexual dysfunction is still underinvestigated. This work aims to assess the potential determinants of sexual dysfunction in pwMS by considering its relationship with disease severity (in terms of global disability), illness perception, and depressive symptoms. In this multicenter study, 1010 pwMS responded to an online survey.

COVID-19 pandemic represented a challenge in the management of treatments for Multiple Sclerosis (MS), such as Natalizumab (NTZ). NTZ interferes with the homing of lymphocytes into the central nervous system, reducing immune surveillance against opportunistic infection. Although NTZ efficacy starts to decline 8 weeks after the last infusion, increasing the risk of disease reactivation, evidence is lacking on the safety of reinfusion during active SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Background: Recent observations suggest a lack of humoral response after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients treated with fingolimod or ocrelizumab OBJECTIVES: To assess serological response to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in MS patients receiving these disease-modifying treatments (DMTs) in a real-life setting.

Methods: Retrospective clinical data collection from MS patients followed at San Raffaele Hospital MS Centre (Milan, Italy). All patients treated with fingolimod or ocrelizumab who had received a complete anti-COVID-19 vaccination course, with no clinical history suggestive of previous SARS-CoV-2 infection and with an available post-vaccination serological assay obtained at least 14 days after vaccination completion were considered for the study.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, concerns raised regarding the use of immunosuppressants in multiple sclerosis, even if current data do not support an increased risk of infection. Although fingolimod can be temporarily suspended during COVID-19, the benefit-risk balance of suspension can be challenging. Till now, no adverse events have been described after the resumption of fingolimod, following a previous discontinuation.

Physical disability impacts psychosocial wellbeing in people with multiple sclerosis. However, the role of physical activity in this context is still debated. By taking advantage of a previous survey, conducted online from 22 April to 7 May 2020, we performed a post-hoc analysis with the aim to assess the associations between disability, physical exercise, and mental health in multiple sclerosis.

Background: We aim to directly compare changes in lymphocyte subpopulations between chimeric (rituximab) and humanised (ocrelizumab) anti-CD20 antibodies in multiple sclerosis (MS).

Methods: In this retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data, we included 88 patients with MS, treated with rituximab (n=50) or ocrelizumab (n=38). We used flow cytometry in the peripheral blood to count total lymphocytes and lymphocytes expressing different phenotypic markers (CD4, CD8, CD19, CD20, CD4/CD8 ratio), before treatment and after 1, 3 and 6 months.

Background And Purpose: In multiple sclerosis (MS), disease-related factors and dysfunctional coping might favor the development of mental distress induced by COVID-19 containment measures. Aim of this study was exploring the relationship between disability, coping strategies, daily life reorganization and neuropsychiatric symptoms in an Italian MS population during the COVID-19 lockdown, in order to identify potentially modifiable factors that could inform clinical management of mental distress in people with MS.

Methods: We explored the relationship between mental distress, disability and coping strategies in the Italian MS population under lockdown.

Epilepsy is one of the most common symptoms of brain tumors. It is often drug resistant and generally worsen patients' quality of life (QoL). Brain tumors release glutamate among other mediators, contributing to seizures onset, and this is accompanied by an increased AMPA receptors' expression on neuronal cells' membrane.

Background: Current treatments for relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) reduce inflammation, but have a partial or modest effect on disability. This effect may require a much longer follow-up than standard trial design, in particular in RRMS with relatively-preserved functional reserve. We aimed to assess the long-term clinical evolution of RRMS patients exposed to atorvastatin in two trials (ACTIVE and ARIANNA).
