RNA-Seq analysis of the fruiting bodies and mycelia of angel-wing mushroom Pleurocybella porrigens that cause acute encephalopathy.

Objective: In 2004, after consuming angel-wing mushrooms, Pleurocybella porrigens, 59 incidents of food poisoning were reported in Japan. Consequently, 17 individuals died of acute encephalopathy. In 2023, we proved that a lectin, pleurocybelline, and pleurocybellaziridine from this mushroom caused damage to the brains of mice.

(Objective) Recently, lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) were reported to be associated with endothelial dysfunction. Endothelial function is non-invasively measured by flow-mediated dilation (FMD). As tadalafil has the potential to improve atherosclerosis, we evaluated the relationship between LUTS and endothelial function using FMD, and the effects of tadalafil.

(Purpose) Photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP) was introduced in Japan about 10 years ago, and there has been few studies regarding long-term outcomes so far. Herein we report our 10-year follow up result of PVP. (Patients and methods) From January 2006 to June 2006, 31 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) underwent PVP and 20 patients were evaluable in 10 years after PVP.

Scopranones with Two Atypical Scooplike Moieties Produced by Streptomyces sp. BYK-11038.

Three new compounds, designated scopranones A-C, were isolated from the culture broth of a soil isolate, Streptomyces sp. BYK-11038, and shown to be inhibitors of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) induced alkaline phosphatase activity in a BMP receptor mutant cell line. The structures were elucidated using NMR and other spectral data.

[Two cases of epithelioid angiomyolipoma of the kidney].

Two cases of epithelioid angiomyolipoma of the kidney are reported. A 62-year-old female with incidental left renal tumor underwent laparoscopic leftpartial nephrectomy under a diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma. A pathological examination revealed epithelioid angiomyolipoma.

Nevertheless, the effect of this treatment on polyuria related to nocturia is not clear. By subgroup analysis of the data set from a phase III clinical trial of antimuscarinic agent for OAB patients in Japan, imidafenacin was found to improve nocturia with a reduction in nocturnal polyuria.

Urgency is the core symptom of the overactive bladder symptom complex, but the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. Clinical findings have led to the assumption that bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) caused by benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) induces storage symptoms and detrusor overactivity. Presumably, BOO by BPE accounts for urgency; however, urgency is not always caused by BOO.
