The results of Brillouin scattering investigations of two-component system: 2,2-bis[4-(2-hydroxy-3-methacryloxypropoxy)phenyl]propane/polyethylene glycol methacrylate (bis-GMA/PEGMM) containing 0, 30, 50, 70, 85 and 100 mol% of PEGMM are presented. For the first time the Brillouin spectroscopy was used to monitor the progress of the polymerization process. The polymerization was initiated by ultraviolet radiation (λ=365 nm), at temperature 20°C and 40°C.

The electrooxidation of double stranded DNA has been studied in a wide temperature range by cyclic and square wave voltammetries and the results were compared with UV-Vis and CD spectroscopies. A twofold increase of dsDNA voltammetric peaks related to the conformation changes preceding the denaturation process was found to begin at a temperature lower than the well known increase of dsDNA absorbance upon denaturation (the melting point) by circa 20 degrees C. Since the dsDNA voltammetric peaks are related directly to the electrooxidation of guanine and adenine, early conformational changes in guanine-cytosine (G-C) and adenine-thymine (A-T) pairs in dsDNA are possible reasons for the increase of the voltammetric peaks.

We present a case of a 38-year-old woman with dilated cardiomyopathy and massive pulmonary embolism treated with alteplase and unfractionated heparin. Electrospinning of the globular protein, bovine serum albumin (BSA), was optimized to obtain proteinous fibers suitable as biosensors. It was shown that the as-spun protein preserves its native form, whereas solubility of the cross-linked in the ambient conditions BSA nanofibers evidently decreases.
