The impact of preoperative venous thromboembolism on patients undergoing TURBT: Perioperative outcomes and healthcare costs from US insurance claims data.

Objectives: To assess the impact of a positive history of venous thromboembolism (VTE) on perioperative outcomes, including length of in-hospital stay, readmission rates, 90-day postoperative complications, and healthcare costs in bladder cancer (BCa) patients undergoing transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT) in the United States.

Patients And Methods: Patients aged ≥18 years with a BCa diagnosis undergoing TURBT were identified in the Merative® Marketscan® Research de-identified databases between 2007 and 2021. Multivariable logistic regression adjusted by relevant perioperative confounders was used to investigate the association between diagnosis of VTE before TURBT and 90-day complication rates, new postoperative VTE events, re-hospitalization, and total hospital expenditures (2021 US dollars).

: Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) for the treatment of prostate cancer (PCa) has been standardized over the last 20 years. At our institution, only n = 3 rob arms are used for RARP. In addition, n = 2, 12 mm lap trocars are placed for the bedside assistant symmetrically at the midclavicular lines, which allows for direct pelvic triangulation and greater involvement of the assisting surgeon.

Percutaneous cryoablation of renal tumours under computed tomography guidance: methodology of the procedure.

Purpose: The incidence of renal cell carcinoma has been steadily increasing over the past two decades, raising the need for minimally invasive approaches. We sought to present the methodology of the percutaneous cryoablation (PCA) procedure developed based on one year of experience with 81 PCA procedures.

Material And Methods: The percutaneous cryoablation programme at Wroclaw Medical University Hospital has been successfully operating for a year.

Implantation of inflatable penile prosthesis should be considered as a definitive treatment of erectile dysfunction. However, the sole procedure might not allow for optimal dimensional and functional outcomes. The aim of this study was to systematically review the literature and present the findings on the optimal choice of perioperative methods, surgical techniques, and pharmacotherapy to improve penile length, curvature, and erectile function.

Antiproton annihilation at rest in thin solid targets and comparison with Monte Carlo simulations.

The mechanism of antiproton-nucleus annihilation at rest is not fully understood, despite substantial previous experimental and theoretical work. In this study we used slow extracted antiprotons from the ASACUSA apparatus at CERN to measure the charged particle multiplicities and their energy deposits from antiproton annihilations at rest on three different nuclei: carbon, molybdenum and gold. The results are compared with predictions from different models in the simulation tools Geant4 and FLUKA.

Role of the Coulomb Potential in Compton Scattering.

We report a fully differential study of ionization of the Ne L shell by Compton scattering of 20 keV photons. We find two physical mechanisms that modify the Compton-electron emission. Firstly, we observe scattering of the Compton electrons at their parent nucleus.

Methods: We used administrative databases in Ontario, Canada, to identify DRF patients aged 18 years or older from 2003 to 2016. We used procedural and fee codes within 30 days to determine which patients underwent early fixation (≤ seven days) or delayed fixation following CR.

Purpose: Urolithiasis significantly affects patient quality of life, yet the global standard of care predominantly focuses on achieving a stone free status, often ignoring patient reported outcomes. Currently, there are no specific measures available to assess the quality of life in the Polish population suffering from kidney stones. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and validate the Polish version of the Wisconsin Stone Quality of Life Questionnaire.

Performance of ChatGPT in providing patient information about upper tract urothelial carcinoma.

Introduction: The aim was to evaluate ChatGPT generated responses to patient-important questions regarding upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC).

Material And Methods: Fifteen common inquiries asked by patients regarding UTUC were assigned to 4 categories: general information; symptoms and diagnosis; treatment; and prognosis. These questions were entered into ChatGPT and its responses were recorded.

Nitroxoline: treatment and prevention of urinary tract infections from the urologist's perspective.

Introduction: Nitroxoline is an old antimicrobial agent with a broad spectrum of pharmacological applications and a unique mechanism of action. However, its use in the treatment and prevention of urinary tract infections (UTIs) has not been popular in the recent past. Recently, nitroxoline is gaining interest, due to frequent drug-resistance in uropathogens.

Nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism (NSH) in dogs is a condition that develops in response to a vitamin D deficiency or an imbalanced calcium-to-phosphorus ratio in dog food. Puppies of large-breed dogs exclusively fed a non-supplemented, boneless raw meat diet are especially susceptible to developing NSH due to their elevated calcium requirement. Reports on NSH in companion animals have been sparse in the last decades due to dog owners having easy access to commercially balanced dog foods.

Retrograde intrarenal surgery using the ILY robotic flexible ureteroscope: a single centre experience.

Introduction: The ILY robotic flexible ureteroscope has been introduced in order to improve intraoperative ergonomics, reduce operator distance from radiation and shorten the learning curve. In this study we aimed to assess the clinical performance and feasibility of the ILY robot during retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and combined endoscopic procedures (miniECIRS).

Material And Methods: The RIRS procedures were performed using the ILY robotic arm in 57 adult patients (46 RIRS and 11 miniECIRS) from 2022 to 2023.
