Background: Bacterial pulmonary superinfections develop in a substantial proportion of mechanically ventilated COVID-19 patients and are associated with prolonged mechanical ventilation requirements and an increased mortality. Albeit recommended, evidence supporting the use of empirical antibiotics at intubation is weak and of low quality. The aim of this study was to elucidate the effect of empirical antibiotics, administered within 24hours of endotracheal intubation, on superinfections, duration of mechanical ventilation, and mortality in mechanically ventilated patients with COVID-19.

Since then, important progress has been shown using newer and more active immunotherapies, including chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy (CAR-T), conjugated monoclonal antibodies, and bispecific antobodies, which currently plays a significant role in the treatment of diffuse large B-cell (DLBCL), follicular (FL), and mantle cell (MCL) lymphoma.
Purpose: In this review, we provide an updated overview of recently completed and ongoing BsAb trials in patients with relapsed/refractory(R/R) B-NHL and Hodgkin's lymphoma, including single-agent results, emerging combinations, safety data, and novel constructs.

Anthropogenic stressors in terrestrial ecosystems require focused research on adaptive responses in soil organisms such as Eisenia fetida, a model earthworm species. We analyzed the gene expression of five small heat shock proteins (sHSPs) in response to various stressors: heat stress (31 and 35 °C), desiccation (10 % and 20 % humidity), and chemical exposure (bisphenol A and endosulfan) under standard and elevated temperatures. Under moderate heat (31 °C), early upregulation of sHSP transcripts suggests their involvement in initial stress responses, possibly mitigating protein aggregation.

Amyloid-beta (Aβ) aggregation is a critical factor in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease, with distinct aggregation behaviours observed between its isoforms Amyloid-β 1-40 (Aβ40) and 1-42 (Aβ42). In this study, we investigated the aggregation properties of Aβ40 using fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) and detailed data analysis. Our results reveal that Aβ40 undergoes a two-step cooperative aggregation process.

Objectives: To calculate the direct cost of personal protective equipment (PPE) used during the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of a Brazilian tertiary public hospital.
Methods: We evaluated the cost of PPE during the pandemic to the cost before (2021 vs 2019, respectively) using the microcosting method. Cost estimates were converted into US dollars in 2023, taking inflation into account and using purchasing power parity conversion rates.
Background: Generalized joint hypermobility as a characteristic feature of Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) is among the factors contributing to temporomandibular disorders (TMD).
Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of TMD symptoms and their risk factors among women born in Sweden or Finland who were 27- to 78-year-olds with diagnosed hypermobile EDS (hEDS).
Methods: A cohort of women with confirmed hEDS (n = 185) was constructed from the members of the National EDS Associations in both countries.

In this work, we explored how exposure to heat, desiccation, and chemical stress alters the expression of genes that encode heat shock proteins (HSPs), an enzyme that responds to oxidative stress (CAT), hypoxia-related proteins (HIF1 and HYOU), and a DNA repair-related protein (PARP1) in the earthworm Eisenia fetida. Exposure to heat (31°C) for 24 h upregulated HSPs and hypoxia-related genes, suggesting possible acquired thermotolerance.

In the last decade, anti-CD19 CAR-T cell therapy has led to a treatment paradigm shift for B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas, first with the approval for relapsed/refractory (R/R) large B-cell lymphomas and subsequently for R/R mantle cell and follicular lymphoma. Many efforts are continuously being made to extend the therapeutic setting in the lymphoma field. Several reports are supporting the safety and efficacy of CAR-T cells in patients with central nervous system disease involvement.

Earthworms have a crucial role in the maintenance of the biotic and abiotic soil properties, which is important for the biodiversity and productivity of terrestrial ecosystems, especially in the current scenario of climate change. Aestivation is a form of dormancy witnessed in organisms living in deserts or semiarid environments such as the ones found in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula. Recent analyses of ovaries in microdriles and leech-like taxa revealed that they are composed of syncytial germline cysts accompanied by somatic cells. Although the pattern of cyst organization is conserved across Clitellata - each cell is connected via one intercellular bridge (ring canal) to the central and anuclear cytoplasmic mass termed the cytophore - this system shows high evolutionary plasticity.
