The development of new convenient tools for the design of multicomponent nucleic acid (NA) complexes is one of the challenges in biomedicine and NA nanotechnology. In this paper, we analyzed the formation of hybrid RNA/DNA concatemers and self-limited complexes by a pair of oligonucleotides using UV melting, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and a gel shift assay. Effects of the size of the linker between duplex-forming segments of the oligonucleotides on complexes' shape and number of subunits were compared and systematized for RNA/DNA, DNA/DNA, and RNA/RNA assemblies.

This study is devoted to creating a neural network technology for assessing metal accumulation in the body of a metropolis resident with short-term and long-term intake from anthropogenic sources. Direct assessment of metal retention in the human body is virtually impossible due to the many internal mechanisms that ensure the kinetics of metals and the wide variety of organs, tissues, cellular structures, and secretions that ensure their functional redistribution, transport, and cumulation. We have developed an intelligent multi-neural network model capable of calculating the content of metals in the human body based on data on their environmental content.

The search for minimally invasive methods for diagnostics of colorectal cancer (CRC) is the most important task for early diagnostics of the disease and subsequent successful treatment. Human plasma represents the main type of biological material used in the clinical practice; however, the complex dynamic range of substances circulating in it complicates determination of CRC protein markers by the mass spectrometric (MS) method. Combining new therapeutics with all--retinoic acid (ATRA) could improve the efficiency of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) treatment. Modeling the process of ATRA-induced differentiation based on the transcriptomic profile of leukemic cells resulted in the identification of key targets that can be used to increase the therapeutic effect of ATRA. Objective: Aim: This research is focused at analyzing the indicators and substantiating the peculiarities of caries prevention in permanent teeth in schoolchildren of Poltava region, taking into account the endemic features of the Poltava region.

Patients And Methods: Materials and Methods: A comparative study was conducted among 608 pupils of secondary schools in Kremenchuk, who consumed drinking water with fluoride concentrations in the lower limits of the norm, and 1214 pupils of secondary schools in Poltava, who consumed drinking water with fluoride concentrations in the optimal upper limits of the norm.

Results: Results: The rates of caries in permanent teeth in children living in a region with fluoride concentrations in drinking water in the optimal-upper normal range are several times lower than in children of the same age living in a region with fluoride concentrations in drinking water in the lower normal range, and a significant increase in the prevalence and intensity of caries is observed from 7 to 9 to 12 years of age, as teeth after eruption are most vulnerable to caries.

Plasma membrane proteins with extracellular-exposed domains are responsible for transduction of extracellular signals into intracellular responses, and their accessibility to therapeutic molecules makes them attractive targets for drug development. In this work, using omics technologies and immunochemical methods, we have studied changes in the content of markers of clusters of differentiation (CD markers) of neutrophils (CD33, CD97, CD54, CD38, CD18, CD11b, CD44, and CD71) at the level of transcripts and proteins in NB4, HL-60 and K562 cell lines, induced by the treatment with all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA). Transcriptomic analysis revealed the induction of CD38, CD54, CD11b, and CD18 markers as early as 3 h after the addition of the inducer in the ATRA-responsive cell lines HL-60 and NB4.

The use of cation-exchange membranes as electrolytes for lithium metal batteries can prevent the formation of lithium dendrites during extended cycling and guarantee safe battery operation. In our study, the Nafion-212 membrane in lithium form solvated by a mixture of ethylene carbonate and propylene carbonate (EC-PC) was used as an electrolyte in a lithium metal battery with the LiFePO cathode. The Nafion-212-EC-PC electrolyte is electrochemically stable up to 6 V, indicating its suitability for high-energy density batteries.

A comparative assessment of the expression of the mitochondrial fission marker Drp1 and the autophagy marker LC3 in neurons and endothelial cells in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex during progression of cognitive deficit was performed in animals with intrahippocampal administration of β-amyloid. In both brain regions, the expression of Drp1 and LC3 in neuronal and endothelial cells was enhanced. The peak of cognitive impairment corresponded to the maximum expression of Drp1 and LC3 in hippocampal neurons and was preceded by an increase in the number of Drp1 and LC3 endothelial cells in this brain region.

Here we studied for the first time the influence of cerium phosphate nanoparticles on the physicochemical and transport properties of commercial anion exchange membranes based on quaternary ammonium-functionalized polystyrenes, such as heterogeneous Ralex AM and pseudo-homogeneous Neosepta AMX. The implantation of a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) has become an essential requirement for managing patients with end-stage heart failure. However, aortic valve insufficiency is a contraindication for LVAD implantation in patients with end-stage heart failure, partly because of the decreasing efficiency of mechanical circulatory support and the eventual development of right ventricular failure. Herein, we present the first case of performing transcatheter aortic valve replacement in valve-in-ring along with LVAD implantation for the treatment of a 60-year-old male suffering from refractory heart failure due to dilated cardiomyopathy and pure aortic insufficiency in need of a new aortic bioprosthesis.
