Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between oral hygiene (OH) efficiency and manual dexterity skills in Spanish five-year-old children using two fine motor tests.

Methods: A cross-sectional study with a pre-post evaluation was designed. The children's OH was measured according to the Silness and Löe plaque index (PI) before toothbrushing upon arrival at school (pre) and after supervised toothbrushing (post).

In recent years, marine natural products have become one of the most important resources of novel lead compounds for critical diseases associated with age. , a dietary supplement made from blue-green algae (cyanobacteria: scientific name ), is particularly rich in phycocyanin, a phycobiliprotein, which accounts for up to 20% of this cyanobacterium's dry weight and is considered responsible for its anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. Although the anti-aging activity of phycocyanin has been investigated, how exactly this compound works against aging remains elusive.

The impact of osteogenesis imperfecta severity on oral health-related quality of life in Spain: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) affects dental and craniofacial development; therefore, it can influence oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). The objective of this study was to explore the influence of the severity of OI on OHRQoL in adults older than eighteen years residing in Spain.

Method: Adults with OI were recruited from the Spanish Association of Crystal Bone (AHUCE) foundation.

Background: The main objective of this study is to enhance neurosurgeons' anatomical knowledge by providing specific anatomical references of the cavernous sinus (CS). However, it is essential to clarify that our study does not seek to establish an absolute intraoperative rule due to the inherent anatomical variability that must be considered.

Methods: Fifty-three cadaveric specimens were procured from the Forensic Institute (Bogotá) and subjected to dissection through an extradural approach.

Dental treatment under general anesthesia in patients with severe intellectual disability at the Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital: a 10-year retrospective study.

Objectives: There is a high demand for dental treatment in a hospital setting for patients with severe intellectual disability (ID), due to their inability to cooperate. The objective was to determine the types of dental treatment carried out on patients with severe ID, as well as the possibility of performing clinical and radiographic examinations prior to treatment and to identify their characteristics.

Method And Materials: A retrospective observational study was performed, based on the medical histories of patients with severe ID or a disability included in the portfolio of dental services of Community of Madrid, who underwent dental treatment at the Stomatology Service of the Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital from the year 2009 to 2019.

The presence of Listeria monocytogenes in piggery effluents intended for irrigation crops may be a source of bacterial dissemination in agriculture. The occurrence and diversity of L. monocytogenes in the farm environment were examined in two pig manure treatment systems (S1 and S2).

Morphological Study of Dental Structure in Dentinogenesis Imperfecta Type I with Scanning Electron Microscopy.

Dentinogenesis imperfecta type I (DGI-I) is a hereditary alteration of dentin associated with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). To describe and study the morphological characteristics of DGI-I with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Twenty-five teeth from 17 individuals diagnosed with OI and 30 control samples were studied with SEM at the level of the enamel, dentin-enamel junction (DEJ) and four levels of the dentin, studying its relationship with clinical-radiographic alterations.

Pulmonary damage in a patient with hairy cell leukemia - infectious involvement or hematological disease activity? Case report.

Background: Hairy cell leukemia (HCL) is a rare indolent lymphoproliferative disease with an accumulation of mature B lymphocytes with fine reticular chromatin and cytoplasm with typical hairy-like cytoplasmic projections. Rarely, hairy cell leukemia manifests as a lung infiltration. The differential diagnosis between infection and malignant involvement with hairy cell leukemia is often challenging in such situations.

Is percutaneous computed tomography-guided biopsy sufficient to establish indolent lymphoma transformation?

Introduction: The aim of the study was to retrospectively evaluate the technical features, efficacy, accuracy, and relevant complications of computed tomography-guided biopsies in various anatomical localizations when diagnosing indolent lymphoma transformations, relapses, duplicate malignant diseases or benign processes.

Material And Methods: From December 2007 to December 2017, 81 percutaneous biopsy procedures in 72 patients for tumors, sizes 17-232 mm in diameter (median length: 39 mm), were performed in patients with known indolent lymphomas in their clinical history. The patients were men in 41 cases and women in 31 cases, aged 36 to 86 years.

[Remission of the disease associated/related with immunoglobulin IgG4 accompanied by multiple lymphadenopathy after treatment with rituximab and dexamethasone: a case report].

A disease associated with immunoglobulin IgG4 is a rare unit with very variable symptoms. We describe the course and treatment of the disease in a patient who presented with multiple lymphadenopathy and infiltrates in the area of the retroperitoneum and pelvis and signs of chronic sclerosing pancreatitis. The disease was clinically manifested by a significant loss of weight, but also by a loss of perception of taste and smell.

[Identification of an optimal algorithm for effective diagnostics of non-small cell lung cancer with ALK gene rearrangement - implementation of the method and practical experiences with routine diagnostics].

The aim of the retrospective part of the study was a) to select an optimal clone of immunohistochemical (IHC) antibody against the ALK protein with specificity and sensitivity high enough to use this antibody as a screening method for selecting non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cases for fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) testing of ALK gene rearrangement and b) to determine the diagnostic yield of "small" biopsies i.e. endobronchial, transbronchial and transthoracic biopsies and cytoblocks for ALK gene rearrangement testing.

Thyroid transcription factor 1 expression is associated with outcome of patients with non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer treated with pemetrexed-based chemotherapy.

Pemetrexed is an antifolate cytostatic agent targeting several folate-dependent enzymatic pathways, widely used in the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic stage non-small cell lung cancer. Aside from the non-squamous histology, there is still no available molecular biomarker predicting treatment efficacy of pemetrexed-based chemotherapy. The aim of our retrospective study was to evaluate the association of thyroid transcription factor 1 expression with outcome of a large cohort of patients with non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer treated with pemetrexed.

[Interstitial lung diseases associated with smoking].

There are many different interstitial lung diseases associated with smoking. This short review describes officially recognized disorders (desquamative interstitial pneumonia, respiratory bronchiolitis and pulmonary Langerhans´cells histiocytosis) and entities with uncertain relationship to smoking, which have recently been published in the literature. Histopathological pictures and differential diagnosis of smoking-related diseases of the lungs are discussed.

[Differential diagnosis of granulomatous lung diseases].

Brief review of histopathology of non-tumor pulmonary diseases with nodular or granulomatous morphology. Differential diagnosis of infections, sarcoidosis, vasculitides with a granulomatous component and selected pneumoconioses is presented.

[Histopathology of interstitial lung diseases].

Diffuse interstitial lung disorders include more than 200 different syndroms affecting the space between epithelial basal membrane and endothelial cells. Histopathological investigation of the lung tissue is one of the crucial parts of the multidisciplinary team approach for the investigation of these disorders. The aim of this review is a brief characterization of the pattern of the main subtypes of lung tissue damage.

Light-evoked hyperpolarization and silencing of neurons by conjugated polymers.

The ability to control and modulate the action potential firing in neurons represents a powerful tool for neuroscience research and clinical applications. While neuronal excitation has been achieved with many tools, including electrical and optical stimulation, hyperpolarization and neuronal inhibition are typically obtained through patch-clamp or optogenetic manipulations. Here we report the use of conjugated polymer films interfaced with neurons for inducing a light-mediated inhibition of their electrical activity.

Impact of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, TSH levels, and anti-thyroid antibody positivity on differentiated thyroid carcinoma incidence.

Introduction: The relationship between Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and thyroid cancer (TC) is controversial. While most surgical studies report a high incidence of malignancy among patients with HT, cytological studies do not. The role of autoantibodies in the incidence of malignancy is unclear.
