Impaired inflammatory immune cells have been implicated in the pathogenesis of Behcet's disease (BD). In the current study, we aimed to evaluate the frequency of T helper (Th) 17 and regulatory T (Treg) cells, cytokine secretion, the expression of transcription factors related to Th17 and Treg cells, and microRNAs (miRNAs) targeting these transcription factors in BD patients. Problem: Inappropriate activation of the immune system, particularly the imbalance of T-helper type 17 (Th17)/regulatory T (Treg) cells is thought to play considerable roles in preeclampsia (PE). To investigate the probable effects of the adaptive immune system in the pathophysiology of PE, we analyzed the dynamic changes of Th17/Treg cells, cytokines profile, and transcription pattern of Th17/Treg-related genes and microRNAs (miRNAs) in 50 women suffering from PE in comparison with 50 healthy pregnant women.

This work proposes a technology for phosphonate removal from wastewater using magnetically separable microparticles modified with a tailored ZnFeZr-oxyhydroxide adsorbent material which proved to be highly efficient, reaching a maximum loading of ∼20 mg nitrilotrimethylphosphonic acid-P/g (215 μmol NTMP/g) at room temperature, pH 6 and 30 min contact time. The adsorption process at pH < 7 was fast, following the pseudo-second-order kinetics model. Furthermore, NTMP adsorption onto ZnFeZr-oxyhydroxide proved to be endothermic.

Considering possible effects of poly-unsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) on embryo implantation more likely through PGs, we investigated effects of dietary omega-3 and -6 PUFA on prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) signaling in mice uterus during pre-implantation period. The mRNA expressions of microsomal- and cytosolic- PGE synthase (mPGES and cPGES) and protein expressions of PGE receptor 2 and 4 (EP2 and EP4) were evaluated in uterus tissues of control as well as omega 3 and omega 6 received mice at days 1-5 of pregnancy. Expression of cPGES gene was not significantly different between groups but the mPGES expression on days 4 and 5 of pregnancy in supplemented groups was higher than controls.

This report describes an outbreak of purulent mandibular and/or maxillary osteomyelitis caused by in a sheep flock located in the Khuzestan province, Iran. Jaw bones of almost 100 out of 500 mature sheep in a flock became severely deformed with a variably sized firm swelling, without any signs of inflammation in the surrounding soft tissues. The affected animals showed anorexia, depression, swelling of the mandibular and/or maxillary area, loss of cheek teeth and poor body condition.

It has not been well explored how NPs may induce some adverse effects on the biological systems. In this research, the interaction of cobalt oxide NPs (CoO NPs) with tau protein and PC-12 cell line, as nervous system models, was investigated with several approaches including fluorescence spectroscopy, CD spectroscopy, docking study, MTT, LDH, AO/EB dual staining, and flow cytometry assays. Fluorescence investigation displayed that CoO NPs spontaneously mediate the formation of a static complex with tau protein through hydrogen bonds and van der Waals forces.
