This study aims to identify the common genetic variations of the TMPRSS6 gene that affect iron levels among Saudi female patients with iron deficiency anemia (IDA).
Methods: All study participants were Saudi females (12-49 years old): 32 patients with IDA, 32 patients with IRIDA, and 34 healthy individuals comprising the control group.

Recent studies have suggested that genetic variants in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)-encoded complexes of respiratory chain, particularly, complex I (NADH dehydrogenase), contribute to the pathogenicity of MS among different ethnicities, and targeting mitochondrial function may represent a novel approach for MS therapy. In eukaryotic cells, protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) plays a crucial role in protein folding by catalyzing the rearrangement of disulfide bonds in substrate proteins following their synthesis. LmPDI displays similar domain structure organization and functional properties to other PDI family members and is involved in Leishmania virulence.
