The method of ecological transects was used for studying plant-species composition in an aged artificial pine stand created on a composite spruce forest on soddy-podzolic soil (underlain by blanket loams) in the broad-leaved-spruce forest subzone (Moscow oblast). The change of edificatory tree species was followed by changes in the ecological conditions and, as a consequence, in the species composition, abundance, and cenotic significance of vegetation. Changes in the pattern of restoration of floristic diversity in different soil-geochemical facies of the transect were observed.

The fact of a significant increase in resistance to aminoglycosides when nfr genes with chromosomal or plasmid localization are combined with the plasmid genes coding for kanamycin-transferase in E. coli cells is confirmed. Gel-filtration of homogenates of the cells with and without pLD105 plasmid carrying nfr gene and of the cells with a chromosomal nfr gene revealed a 10 kD polypeptide when the plasmid is present.

Chemical-enzymatic synthesis and cloning in Escherichia coli of an artificial gene encoding the immunoactive peptide thymosin alpha 1 have been carried out. Recombinant plasmids were constructed which contain fusion genes coding for hybrids of human tumour necrosis factor (TNF) and thymosin alpha 1 as N- or C-terminal part of the hybrid protein. In the C-terminal hybrid protein, TNF and thymosin alpha 1 are linked through a methionine residue, thus allowing for thymosin alpha 1 to be cleaved off the rest of the hybrid protein with cyanogen bromide.

The bone marrow eosinophils of rats subjected to irradiation are capable of secreting a peroxidase system obtained by neutrophils and endotheliocytes. As a result, there appear heterophil granulocytes in the peripheral blood.

The recombinant plasmids have been constructed encoding the synthesis of a full-sized diphtheria toxin from its own or PR, PL-promoters of bacteriophage lambda in Escherichia coli cells. The high level constitutive synthesis of toxin results in slow cell growth and plasmid elimination. The toxin was mainly detected in the periplasm, partially in the membrane and to a less extent in the cytoplasm and culturing medium.

The capacity of Y. pseudotuberculosis strains for disassociation with the appearance of S- and P-forms has been studied. Strains 852 and 9547 show high stability in S-forms, their conversion into R-forms occurring at 40-42 degrees C.

The pesticinogenicity 9.5 kb plasmid from Yersinia pestis strain EV76 has been marked by the kanamycin phosphotransferase gene inserted into PstI site and designated pP3. The obtained plasmid pP3 determines the synthesis of 45 kd pesticin, alpha and beta-forms of fibrinolysin coagulase (37 and 35 kd) and the 29, 19 and 13 kd proteins in Escherichia coli mini cells.

Blood thyrotropic hormone, thyroxin, tri-iodothyronine, FSH, LH, estradiol and progesterone levels were examined in 14 patients with primary hypothyroidism and 11 normal women of reproductive age. All the women under study were subjected to functional tests with intravenous thyroliberin (TRH) and metoclopramide. All hypothyroid patients had anovulatory infertility.

Prolonged influence of lead on the laboratory white rats was studied. The interchange of the "light" and "dark" endothelial cells in the bone marrow capillaries, pseudomyelination of mitochondria, periendothelial space extension, more dense or loose basement layer and clasmatosis in the adventitial cells of sinusoids were observed. These alterations were observed in both adult and newborn rats whose parents were influenced by lead before the coupling.

The potentialities of transmission-emission scintigraphy in the diagnosis of pulmonary diseases were studied. Thirty-eight patients were examined using transmission positive scintigraphy and 85 patients using transmission-perfusion pulmoscintigraphy. An analysis of the results obtained showed that a combined use of positive and transmission pulmoscintigraphy was a simple and available method providing a full-value idea of the anatomotopographic interrelationships of a tumor lesion and the surrounding tissues.

Capillaries growing into cartilaginous epiphysis are protocapillaries, some of which are formed by "seamless" endothelium. Budding of endotheliocytes and presence of two nuclei in them are supposed to be the characters of incomplete (polyploidization) mitosis.

Blood test and bone marrow examination in experiments with albino rats weighing 100-110 g subjected to long-term lead influence (1% lead acetate per os) showed availability of reticulocytosis with thrombocytopenia (on the 62d day) and thrombocytosis on the 92d day of the experiment) in peripheral blood. Reduction of the bone marrow neutrophil index and leuko-erythroblastic ration due to an increase of an erythroblastic radicle was recorded in the bone marrow.

Blood tests and examination of bone marrow in 2-3 week guinea pigs under conditions of a long-term phenol intoxication (0.5 mg/kg perorally) showed the presence of thrombocytopenia and eosinophilia in peripheral blood and a decrease of the erythroblast maturation index in bone marrow. In the experiment with animals treated with a high dose of phenol there was an evidence of thrombocytopenia accompanied by reticulocytosis and a nuclear shift of neutrophils to the right.

Subcutaneous injection of hydrazine sulphate to animals decreases specific activity of some enzymes in homogenates. The content of total lipids in homogenates was decreased, while that in plasma membrane of the rat liver was increased. This induces substantial changes in the content of the neutral lipid fraction.
