Introduction: Postoperative pneumonia may develop in infants after cardiac surgery; however, only a few reports are available on perioperative oral bacteria in infants. This study aimed to examine preoperative and postoperative salivary bacterial counts in infants undergoing cardiac surgery.

Materials And Methods: The number of bacteria in the saliva of 105 infants (average age: 20 months) who underwent surgery for congenital heart disease was determined by culturing before and after surgery.

A 54-year-old woman presented with an elevated esophageal lesion. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a mass in the pancreatic head. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) showed a well-defined, round, hypoechoic mass, which was considered lymph node enlargement.

Pancreatic Mixed Acinar-neuroendocrine-ductal Carcinoma: A Case Report and Literature Review.

External beam radiotherapy combination is a risk factor for bladder cancer in patients with prostate cancer treated with brachytherapy.

Purpose: To investigate the risk of bladder cancer (BCa) in patients treated with brachytherapy for prostate cancer (PCa).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 583 patients with PCa who underwent brachytherapy with or without external beam radiotherapy (EBRT). We analyzed the disease-free survival (DFS) of BCa in patients with PCa who underwent brachytherapy with or without EBRT.

Prognostic factors in Japanese men with high-Gleason metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.

Background: Several therapeutic agents are available for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). However, prognosis is still not well developed. The Gleason score (GS) is a prognostic factor available for patients with metastatic CRPC.

Caregiver sleep impairment and service member and veteran adjustment following traumatic brain injury is related to caregiver health-related quality of life.

Study Objectives: To examine the relationship between caregiver sleep impairment and/or service member/veteran (SMV) adjustment post-traumatic brain injury, with caregiver health-related quality of life (HRQOL).

Methods: Caregivers (n = 283) completed 18 measures of HRQOL, sleep impairment, and SMV adjustment. Caregivers were classified into 4 sleep impairment/SMV adjustment groups: 1) Good Sleep/Good Adjustment (n = 43), 2) Good Sleep/Poor Adjustment (n = 39), 3) Poor Sleep/Good Adjustment (n = 55), and 4) Poor Sleep/Poor Adjustment (n = 146).

Ischemic hepatitis with infectious endocarditis: A case report.

A 58-year-old woman was admitted to Suzuka General Hospital with fever. She was diagnosed with infectious endocarditis based on the presence of anterior mitral leaflet vegetation on the echocardiography analysis and isolation of by blood culture. During treatment, the hepatic enzymes levels, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were increased without any abdominal symptoms.

Background: Inflammatory cytokines and immature myeloid derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), which increase during cancer progression, could lead to a neutrophil increase and lymphocyte reduction. Thus, the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) was used to predict survival of patients suffering from urological cancers including upper urinary tract carcinoma. We further determined whether the NLR during the first cycle of first-line chemotherapy could predict cancer specific survival.

[Imaging Parameter Optimization of 3D Radial Stack-of-stars MRA with FID Sampling after Treatment of Cerebral Aneurysms with Metallic Devices].

Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) using ultra-short TE (uTE) is known to be used for the evaluation of cerebral aneurysm after treatment such as clipping and coiling. However, conventional uTE sequences are not appropriate as an additional imaging sequence for 3D time-of-flight (TOF)-MRA because it is not possible to shorten scan time and acquire selective-volume imaging. To solve the problem, we focused on the combination of uTE sampling and 3D radial scan sequences.

[Gas-Producing Splenic Abscess after Spleen Metastasis of Left Renal Cell Carcinoma Spleen Metastasis Successfully Treated with Sunitinib].

A 67-year-old man underwent open radical left nephrectomy for left renal cell carcinoma [pT4N0M1 (right lower lobe of lung)] and thoracoscopic partial right lung resection for lung metastasis. We report a case of a 57-year-old man with early-stage CCA with conventional tubular adenoma and tubular adenoma with clear cell change in the transverse colon, diagnosed with image-enhanced endoscopy. The tumor was then treated with endoscopic submucosal dissection.

Site-directed RNA editing is a promising genetic modification technology for therapeutic and pharmaceutical applications. We previously constructed adenosine deaminases acting on RNA (ADAR)-guiding RNAs (AD-gRNAs) that direct A-to-I RNA editing activity of native human ADAR2 into a programmable target site. In this study, we developed the short-chain AD-gRNA (shAD-gRNA) as a potential basic framework for practical RNA-editing oligonucleotides.

Estimation of Potential Distribution during Crevice Corrosion through Analysis of Curves Obtained by LAPS.

Crevice corrosion is a type of local corrosion which occurs when a metal surface is confined in a narrow gap on the order of 10 μm filled with a solution. Because of the inaccessible geometry, experimental methods to analyze the inner space of the crevice have been limited. A 64-year-old woman was infected with hepatitis E virus (HEV) during chemotherapy for leukemia. By retrospective analyses of stored serum from the blood products and the patient, the source of the infection was determined to be platelet concentration (PC) transfused during chemotherapy. The partial nucleotide sequence of the HEV strain isolated from the donated PC and that from the patient's sera was identical and was subgenotype 3b.

Pathological Findings in Male Patients With Anti-N-methyl-d-Aspartate Receptor Encephalitis.
