Objective: To investigate control options for contagious ecthyma (scabby mouth) in Australian sheep exported live to the Middle East.

Design: Prevalence, vaccination and modelling studies.

Procedure: One hundred and forty weaner sheep (less than 1 year old) on each of 106 farms in Western Australia (WA) and 18 farm groups of adult wethers received at a WA commercial feedlot were examined for lesions of scabby mouth.

Aim: To compare a thromboxane antagonist (GR3219) with aspirin in patients with prolonged chest pain and ST segment depression to see if the frequency of attacks of chest pain was reduced.

Methods: The trial was part of a study comparing GR3219 with aspirin, and streptokinase with placebo and comprised the GR3219/aspirin leg. Thirty one patients were randomly assigned to GR3219 80 mg twice daily and 28 to aspirin 300 mg daily.

Conflicting conclusions have been drawn from comparisons of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and the Abbott Diagnostics monoclonal fluorescence polarization immunoassay (mFPIA) for cyclosporin. The aim of this study was to compare whole blood cyclosporin A (CsA) concentrations measured by both mFPIA and HPLC in liver and heart transplant patients. Effect of coronary artery bypass graft surgery on survival: overview of 10-year results from randomised trials by the Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Trialists Collaboration.

We carried out a systematic overview using individual patient data from the seven randomised trials that have compared a strategy of initial coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery with one of initial medical therapy to assess the effects on mortality in patients with stable coronary heart disease (stable angina not severe enough to necessitate surgery on grounds of symptoms alone, or myocardial infarction). 1324 patients were assigned CABG surgery and 1325 medical management between 1972 and 1984. The proportion of patients in the medical treatment group who had undergone CABG surgery was 25% at 5 years, 33% at 7 years, and 41% at 10 years: 93.

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in the emergency department: a case report.

The Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) is a complication of ovulation enhancing technologies that is becoming more prevalent with increasing use of these techniques in infertile women. In this report, we describe a 36-year-old woman who presented to the Emergency Department with hemodynamic compromise secondary to OHSS. The OHSS is characterized by ovarian enlargement, ascites, electrolyte disturbances, hypotension, and thromboembolic events.

Postpartum multivessel coronary dissection.

A 29-year-old woman had an acute myocardial infarction 5 days after giving birth. Serial coronary angiography showed multiple progressive coronary artery dissections, which eventually involved both the right and left coronary trees. Persistent cardiogenic shock necessitated emergent orthotopic heart transplantation.

Framework for designing sampling programs.

A general framework for designing sampling programs is described. As part of the sampling program the problem of concern, or reason for sampling, needs to be clearly stated and objectives specified. The development of a conceptual model will assist the clarification of objectives and the choice of indicators to be sampled.

Long-term prognostic importance of patency of the infarct-related coronary artery after thrombolytic therapy for acute myocardial infarction.

Background: After thrombolytic therapy, long-term patency of the infarct-related artery may reduce arrhythmias, limit ventricular dilatation, and provide collaterals to another infarct zone if further infarction occurs. However, independent long-term prognostic value of infarct artery patency has not been shown.

Methods And Results: We followed 312 patients with first myocardial infarction treated < 4 hours after pain onset with thrombolysis (streptokinase [n = 188] or recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator [n = 124]).
