In this brief review, we will highlight the ferret Mustela putorius furo as an increasingly utilized animal model for sensory systems and cognitive neuroscience research. In particular, the human like hearing range of the ferret, coupled with their amenability to training, make them an especially useful model for auditory and multisensory neuroscience. These factors, combined with the increasing availability of virally mediated circuit dissection methods, mean they occupy a unique niche as a versatile and valuable research model.

To develop a core outcome set for Achilles tendinopathy (COS-AT) for use in clinical trials we performed a five-step process including (1) a systematic review of available outcome measurement instruments, (2) an online survey on truth and feasibility of the available measurement instruments, (3) an assessment of the methodological quality of the selected outcome measurement instruments, (4) an online survey on the outcome measurement instruments as COS and (5) a consensus in-person meeting. Both surveys were completed by healthcare professionals and patients. The Outcome Measures in Rheumatology guidelines with a 70% threshold for consensus were followed.

The Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) represent a group of hereditary connective tissue disorders, with the hypermobile subtype (hEDS) being the most prevalent. hEDS manifests with a diverse array of clinical symptoms and associated comorbidities spanning the musculoskeletal, neurological, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and immunological systems. hEDS patients may experience spinal neurological complications, including cervico-medullary symptoms arising from cranio-cervical and/or cervical instability/hypermobility, as well as tethered cord syndrome (TCS).

Venetoclax (VEN) combined with hypomethylating agents (HMA) decitabine or azacitidine is used for adult acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its application in paediatric, adolescent and young adult (AYA) AML lacks prospective studies. We performed a retrospective chart review of paediatric and AYA AML patients treated with HMA + VEN at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Centre. Twenty-seven patients received 30 HMA + VEN treatment courses for relapsed/refractory (R/R, n = 21) or newly diagnosed (n = 9) AML due to ineligibility for intensive chemotherapy.

Genetic heterogeneity and co-occurring driver mutations impact clinical outcomes in blood cancers, but predicting the emergent effect of co-occurring mutations that impact multiple complex and interacting signalling networks is challenging. Here, we used mathematical models to predict the impact of co-occurring mutations on cellular signalling and cell fates in diffuse large B cell lymphoma and multiple myeloma. Insulinomas are rare neuroendocrine tumors arising from pancreatic β cells, characterized by aberrant proliferation and altered insulin secretion, leading to glucose homeostasis failure. In previous research, a synthetic α-carboxyl terminus 1 (αCT1) peptide derived from connexin 43 (Cx43) and its variant (αCT11) showed beneficial effects in an ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) heart injury model in mouse.
