Anterior Cranial Fossa Calcifying Pseudoneoplasm of the Neuroaxis-Diagnosis Using a Transblepharoplasty Approach.

Calcifying pseudoneoplasms of the neuroaxis (CAPNON) are rare, benign tumors of unknown histogenesis. CAPNON generally are found intracranially or within the spinal column in symptomatic patients. We present the case of an asymptomatic patient with an incidentally discovered right anterior cranial fossa mass with extension through the posterior and anterior table of the right frontal sinus and right superior orbital roof.

Interpathologist Diagnostic Agreement for Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinomas Using Current and Recent Classifications.

Context.—: Measurement of interpathologist diagnostic agreement (IPDA) should allow pathologists to improve current diagnostic criteria and disease classifications.

Objectives: To document the pathology learning experiences of pathology residents prior to residency and to determine how confident they were in their knowledge and technical skills.

Methods: An online survey was distributed to all pathology residency program directors in the United States, who were requested to forward the survey link to their residents. Data were obtained on pathology electives, grossing experience, and frozen section experience.

Surgical pathology of lung cancer.

The diagnosis, treatment, and management of lung tumors represent a complex set of decision algorithms and require the cooperation and interaction of a team of experts and support systems. The surgical pathologist, an early, important member of the diagnostic team, uses clinical and radiological evidence to differentiate benign from malignant tumors and renders a unique diagnosis that provides both prognostic and treatment information. Using routine histopathologic criteria, histochemical and immunohistochemical stains, and molecular and genetic testing, surgical pathologists and cytopathologists may distinguish between small cell and other bronchogenic carcinomas, separate adenocarcinomas from squamous cell carcinomas, differentiate between pleural carcinomas and diffuse malignant mesotheliomas, and discriminate among the varieties of neuroendocrine carcinomas.

Preoperative capecitabine and concurrent radiation for borderline resectable pancreatic cancer.

Background: Patients with borderline resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) represent a high-risk group of patients due to tumor or patient-related characteristics. The optimal management of these patients has not been fully defined.

Clear cell hepatocellular carcinoma arising 25 years after the successful treatment of an infantile hepatoblastoma.

Primary liver tumors in children are rare with hepatoblastoma (HB) being the most common malignancy. Clear cell carcinoma, a variant of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is another rare tumor of the liver that tends to affect adults. We describe the diagnosis and management of the only known documented case of a primary clear cell HCC arising twenty-five years after the patient was successfully treated with chemotherapy and surgical resection for a malignant HB as an infant.
