Psychotropic stimulants like methamphetamine (METH) have an impact on the physiology, behavior, and psychology of human beings and can damage the reproductive and neuroendocrine systems in them. These deleterious impacts include a temporary drop in the relative weight of the testis along with adverse effects on spermatogenesis. Sambucus nigra, also known as elderberry (EB) or sweet elder, is a source of bioactive compounds that has drawn growing attention for its potential beneficial impact in preventing and treating several diseases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how photobiomodulation (PBM) affects the testis of prepubertal male mice exposed to heat stress, which is known to damage testicular health.
  • Twenty-four male mice were divided into three groups: a control group, a hyperthermia group, and a hyperthermia plus PBM group, where heat was applied to induce stress and laser therapy was used to assess its protective effects.
  • Results showed that the PBM treatment improved sperm quality, increased testicular cell counts, boosted testosterone levels, and reduced harmful oxidative stress, suggesting that laser therapy can help protect the testis from heat damage during critical developmental periods.

  • Unhealthy lifestyle choices like alcohol, chemicals, and heat stress can negatively impact male fertility by damaging the blood-testis barrier (BTB), which is crucial for sperm production.
  • Recent studies have explored photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) as a way to improve sperm quality, particularly in cases with genital inflammation.
  • In an experiment with male mice subjected to heat stress, PBMT was found to significantly enhance sperm quality and the health of the BTB, offering a promising method for treating male infertility.

This study investigated the effect of adding various flavors to calf starter concentrates on the performance, behavior, and blood parameters of Holstein dairy calves. The hypothesis was that an optimal flavor enhancer would increase starter intake, improve growth performance, and possibly enable earlier weaning without adverse physiological effects. In Experiment 1, a cafeteria test was conducted with 80 pre-weaned calves to evaluate four synthetic flavor enhancers (salty, sweet, sour, bitter) at levels of 3.

A zoonotic disease called brucellosis can cause flu-like symptoms and heart inflammation. The bacteria responsible for this disease can also enter the brain, causing a condition called neurobrucellosis that can result in long-term neurological problems. In this study, researchers aimed to determine the changes in the hippocampal cells of rats infected with Brucella.

  • Scrotal hyperthermia negatively affects sperm production and male fertility, prompting this study to explore the impact of vitamins B12 and C in adult male mice exposed to prolonged heat.
  • After 35 days of vitamin treatment, vitamin C showed greater improvements in sperm quality and reduced cell death compared to vitamin B12, alongside beneficial changes in oxidative stress markers.
  • The study concludes that vitamins B12 and C may offer therapeutic benefits for male reproductive health under heat stress, suggesting vitamin supplementation as a viable strategy to combat fertility issues linked to increased scrotal temperatures.

Huntington's disease (HD) is a hereditary condition characterized by the gradual deterioration of nerve cells in the striatum. Recent scientific investigations have revealed the promising potential of Extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a therapy to mitigate inflammation and enhance motor function. This study aimed to examine the impact of administering EVs derived from human umbilical cord blood (HUCB) on the motor abilities and inflammation levels in a rat model of HD.

  • An increase in testicular temperature can harm sperm production and the structure of seminiferous tubules, prompting this study on the effects of Sertoli cell-conditioned medium (SCCM) in mice.
  • The experimental study involved four groups of adult NMRI mice subjected to various treatments, including scrotal hyperthermia, to evaluate the impact on sperm parameters and testicular health.
  • Results showed SCCM treatment improved sperm count, motility, and reduced DNA fragmentation, while also enhancing testicular tissue volume and the expression of specific genes related to spermatogenesis and the blood-testis barrier.

Background And Objectives: Hepatitis B is a common chronic viral infection in humans. Universal use of hepatitis B vaccine is crucial for controlling the infection, but the duration of vaccine-induced immunity remains uncertain. This study aimed to assess hepatitis B antibody levels (anti-HBs) after vaccination in infancy and adolescence, and explore the relationship between immunity levels and variables such as age, sex, BMI, place of birth, and duration since last vaccination among students at Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences from 2019 to 2021.

To investigate the effects of supplemental monensin administration on the metabolic responses of dairy cows, a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis were conducted. Initially, 604 studies were identified through comprehensive database searches, including Google Scholar, Scopus, Science Direct, and PubMed, using key words related to dairy cows, monensin, and metabolic outcomes. After a 2-stage screening process, 51 articles with a total of 60 experiments were selected for meta-analysis based on criteria such as study implementation date between 2001 and 2022, presence of a control group that did not receive monensin supplementation, reporting of at least 1 outcome variable, and presentation of means and corresponding errors.

Heat stress and growing demand for dairy products in tropical regions exert metabolic pressure on dairy cows, leading to metabolic diseases and economic losses. Resveratrol (RSV) is known for its numerous beneficial health effects and can be used as a barrier against metabolic abnormalities and prevent economic losses. Several studies have investigated the effects of RSV in humans and various animal species.

Article Synopsis
  • Testicular heat stress negatively affects sperm production in mammals, but the exact mechanisms are not fully understood; researchers are exploring ways to reverse this damage caused by high temperatures.
  • The study investigated the effects of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) on sperm development in mouse models that experienced heat-induced sperm failure (azoospermia).
  • Results showed that PBMT with lower intensity (0.03 J/cm) improved sperm production by increasing cell activity and reducing harmful substances, ultimately restoring spermatogenesis in the affected mice.

Material properties, such as hardness, yield strength, and ductility, depend on the microstructure of the material. If the microstructural organization can be quantified nondestructively, for example, with ultrasonic scattering techniques, then it may be possible to predict the mechanical performance of a component. Three-dimensional digital microstructures have been increasingly used to investigate the scattering of mechanical waves within a numerical framework.

Although cellular and molecular mediators of the immune system have the potential to be prognostic indicators of disease outcomes, temporal interference between diseases might affect the immune mediators, and make them difficult to predict disease complications. Today one of the most important challenges is predicting the prognosis of COVID-19 in the context of other inflammatory diseases such as traumatic injuries. Many diseases with inflammatory properties are usually polyphasic and the kinetics of inflammatory mediators in various inflammatory diseases might be different.
