The increasing prevalence of kidney failure highlights the crucial need for effective patient-physician communication to improve health-related quality of life and ensure adherence to treatment plans. This narrative review evaluates communication practices in the context of advanced kidney disease, focusing on the frameworks of shared decision-making, advanced care planning, and communication skills training among nephrologists. The findings highlight the significant gaps in patient-physician communication, particularly in the domains of advanced care planning, shared decision-making, and dialysis withdrawal.

Background: The prevalence and chronic nature of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) is a significant global concern. As the essential part of treatments approach, patient adherence to treatment protocols and self-management practices are crucial to = IBD management. Healthcare initiatives focused on chronic conditions are strongly needed to consider various aspects of gamification and how it can positively affect self-management.

The autism spectrum disorder (ASD) registry program presents a unique opportunity to facilitate advanced research in various aspects of ASD, particularly in low-resource countries like Iran. Given the international significance of autism research, registry programs play a critical role in data sharing. ASD registry programs have been effectively established in high-income countries over a few decades; however, there are limited examples from low- and middle-income countries.

We report a concurrent hybrid multiscale simulation method, in which a particle domain is coupled with a surrounding continuum domain. The particle domain consists of a coarse-grained model of poly(lactic acid) and the continuum domain is treated using the finite element method. The coarse-grained model is derived from an atomistic model, using the iterative Boltzmann inversion scheme.

Background And Aims: Patients find it difficult, during the pandemic, to receive appropriate nutrition services because of the limited access to health services. This study assessed the effectiveness of a tele-consulting nutrition intervention on the nutrition adherence of patients with diabetes and hypertension.

Methods: A tele-medical nutrition therapy (MNT) intervention was conducted as a one-group before-after trial.

Anti-tubular basement membrane (anti-TBM) antibody nephritis is a rare type of tubulointerstitial nephritis associated with progressive decline in kidney function. It is characterized histopathologically by tubular atrophy and dilation, interstitial fibrosis, lymphocyte and macrophage-predominant cellular infiltration, and linear deposition of IgG and complement along the tubular basement membrane. We herein present a case of a 69-year-old male who was recently diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and was referred for evaluation of kidney failure, ultimately diagnosed as anti-TBM antibody nephritis progressing into end-stage kidney disease (ESKD).

Ductal stenting (DS) is an interesting palliation for neonates with duct-dependent pulmonary circulation. With the introduction of drug-eluting stents (DES), which have a lower rate of restenosis and longer patency, these stents have replaced bare metal stents (BMS) in the global market. DES release Rapamycin group drugs, which have anti-proliferative and immunosuppressive effects.

Background And Aims: Children and neonates are more susceptible to diseases and are a vulnerable group in medication administration (MA). Nurses interact directly with patients, ensuring safety and preventing unintended outcomes. Health Information Technology (HIT) has transformed health care, aiding nurses in decision-making and treatment responses.

Aims: The mortality rate for -COVID-19 infection varies significantly depending on age and comorbidities but remains high in hospitalized patients overall. Several retrospective studies have identified patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) to be at increased risk. The objective of this study was to study in-hospital outcomes of ESKD patients at an academic medical center and identify characteristics that place them at a higher risk for in-hospital mortality.

Lupus nephritis (LN) is a severe complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in patients with SLE. It is estimated that up to 60% of individuals with SLE will develop LN, which can manifest at any stage of a patient's life; however, it commonly emerges early in the course of SLE and tends to exhibit a more aggressive phenotype in men compared to women. Black and Hispanic patients are more likely to progress to kidney failure than white patients.

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is a genetic disorder marked by the development of cysts in the kidneys and other organs, leading to diverse clinical manifestations, including kidney failure. The psychological burden of ADPKD is substantial, with significant contributors including pain, daily life disruptions, depression, anxiety, and the guilt associated with transmitting ADPKD to offspring. This review details the psychological impacts of ADPKD on patients, addressing how they navigate physical and emotional challenges, including pain management, genetic guilt, mood disorders, and disease acceptance.

Lupus nephritis (LN), a severe complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), leads to significant kidney inflammation and damage and drastically increases mortality risk. Predominantly impacting women in their reproductive years, LN poses specific risks during pregnancy, including pre-eclampsia, growth restrictions, stillbirth, and preterm delivery, exacerbated by lupus activity, specific antibodies, and pre-existing conditions like hypertension. Effective management of LN during pregnancy is crucial and involves carefully balancing disease control with the safety of the fetus.

Delayed-release (DR) budesonide received expedited approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a treatment for reducing proteinuria in individuals with primary IgA nephropathy (IgAN) who are at significant risk of disease progression. The approval was based on clinical trials primarily involving patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) greater than 30 mL/min/1.73 m.

Background: The COVID-19 virus has had wide-ranging effects on all healthcare systems and a direct impact on all areas of human life in all countries around the world. Therefore, it is necessary to take preventive actions to reduce the prevalence and severity of the complications associated with this disease. The purpose of this study was to explain the dimensions of adopting general self-care behaviors (mask-wearing, social distancing, hand hygiene, and home quarantine) for preventing COVID-19 based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) in cardiovascular patients.

Introduction: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a prevalent infection among the elderly population, often culminating in more severe and life-threatening complications. The prevalence of diabetes among elderly individuals is markedly on the rise, with UTI emerging as the most prevalent infectious ailment in this diabetic cohort. This study aims to ascertain the influence of theory-based education on promoting UTI prevention behaviours among elderly diabetic women.
