Purpose: We present a case of ocular pathology linked to morbid obesity, emphasizing the role of systemic inflammation in ocular disease and clinical impact of weight loss.

Methods: We report the case of a 49-year-old man with morbid obesity and obstructive sleep apnea who underwent bilateral corneal transplants secondary to keratoconus. For 4 years, he had chronic bulbar hyperemia with progressive blood vessel growth across the graft-host junction, which was treated with chronic topical corticosteroids.

Traditional methods for predicting such properties, such as solid fat content (SFC), hardness, small amplitude oscillatory rheology, and subjective sensory tests (thumb test), often lack the sensitivity to detect subtle variations in margarine possessing similar characteristics. SFC primarily focuses on solid fat content, hardness measurement with cone provides a single-point assessment and identifying linear viscoelastic region cannot adequately describe the non-linear behavior which is crucial for lamination processes involving significant deformations.

Background: Posaconazole (PCZ) is recommended for antifungal prophylaxis in neutropenic patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Although the delayed-release (DR) tablet of PCZ has better bioavailability than the oral suspension, the serum target trough concentrations of PCZ are not achieved in all patients. Because the metabolism of PCZ is mainly mediated by uridine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase 1A4 (UGT1A4), we investigated whether UGT1A4 polymorphisms affect PCZ exposure.

Background And Purpose: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a fatal disease characterized by fibroblast activation and abnormal accumulation of extracellular matrix in the lungs. We previously demonstrated the importance of the heat shock protein αB-crystallin (HSPB5) in TGF-β1 profibrotic signalling, which suggests that HSPB5 could be a new therapeutic target for the treatment of IPF. The purpose of this study was thus to develop antisense oligonucleotides targeting HSPB5 and to study their effects on the development of experimental pulmonary fibrosis.

Individualizing first-line treatment for advanced urothelial carcinoma: A favorable dilemma for patients and physicians.

The treatment landscape for patients with advanced urothelial carcinoma (UC) has evolved rapidly in recent years. In current guidelines, combination treatment with enfortumab vedotin plus pembrolizumab is the first-line (1L) standard of care, and other recommended 1L treatment options are platinum-based chemotherapy followed by avelumab as switch-maintenance treatment in patients without progression, or combination treatment with nivolumab, cisplatin, and gemcitabine for cisplatin-eligible patients only. Individual patients differ in terms of their health status, disease characteristics, expected toxicities, and treatment preferences; thus, a "one-size-fits-all" approach to treatment is unlikely to be optimal.

Dengue and Other Arbovirus Infections among Schoolchildren, Haiti, 2021.

In 2021, we screened 91 children in Haiti with acute undifferentiated febrile illness for arbovirus infections. We identified a major outbreak of dengue virus type 2, with 67% of the children testing positive. Two others were positive for chikungunya East/Central/South African IIa subclade, and 2 were positive for Zika virus.

This fragility score F captures the tension within a position and serves as a strong indicator of tipping points in a game. In well-known games, maximum fragility often aligns with decisive moments marked by brilliant moves.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major public health concern affecting millions of people yearly. Disparities in TBI outcomes based on social determinants of health (SDoH), such as race and socioeconomic position, highlight the need to explore the causative structural inequities. We employed a socio-epidemiological approach, with particular focus on the putative role of structural racism, to investigate the prevalence, sociodemographic patterns, and neuropsychiatric outcomes of TBI in the All of Us database.

The European Commission asked EFSA to review whether the authorisation of N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)alkyl(C8-C18)amine (FCM No 19) and N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)alkyl(C8-C18)amine hydrochlorides (FCM No 20) is still in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004, as provided for in Article 12(3). The FCM Panel concluded that some uses of the substance N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)alkyl(C8-C18)amine (FCM No 19) are not in accordance with this Regulation, since the migration is likely to exceed the current SML(T) of 1.2 mg/kg food under certain conditions of use.

We conducted an in-depth longitudinal study on an individual carrying the presenilin 2 p.Asn141Ile mutation, traditionally associated with dominantly inherited Alzheimer's disease (AD), who has remarkably remained asymptomatic past the expected age of clinical onset. This study combines genetic, neuroimaging and biomarker analyses to explore the underpinnings of this resilience.

Towards a Consensus on the Management of Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma: Insights from a European Delphi Study.

Background And Objective: Management of metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) remains complex despite clinical guidelines. The aim of this Delphi study was to achieve consensus among RCC experts on the definition, diagnosis, and first-line treatments for mRCC.

Methods: Between May 2023 and April 2024, 14 experts from ten European countries completed two Delphi rounds of a 51-item questionnaire covering four topics: (1) oligometastatic RCC; (2) first-line treatment for metastatic clear-cell RCC; (3) treatment duration for metastatic clear-cell RCC; and (4) treatment of non-clear-cell RCC.

Background And Aims: Aberrant fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR)-driven signaling, predominantly arising from FGFR2 amplification, plays a key role in gastric cancer pathogenesis. This open-label, phase 2 study evaluated the efficacy and safety of futibatinib, an irreversible FGFR1-4 inhibitor, in patients with gastric or gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) cancer harboring FGFR2 amplifications.

Methods: Patients were treated with futibatinib 20 mg orally once daily in a 28-day cycle.

Using Drosophila as a simple model to identify regulators of stem cell behaviour and survival in vivo, we have identified novel connections between the conserved transmembrane proteoglycan Syndecan, nuclear properties and stem cell function. In the Drosophila midgut, Syndecan depletion in intestinal stem cells results in their loss from the tissue, impairing tissue renewal.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) affects 10-50% of patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations. Osimertinib is a third-generation EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) that radically changes the outcome of patients with tumors bearing EGFR sensitizing or EGFR T790M resistance mutations. However, resistance usually occurs, and new therapeutic combinations need to be explored.
