Article Synopsis
  • Recent scientific research reveals abnormal splicing patterns and new gene fusions related to neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinases (NTRKs) in brain tumors called gliomas.
  • *The study focuses on the truncated NTRK2 splice variant, TrkB.T1, which plays a significant role in the development and progression of gliomas by enhancing signaling pathways involved in tumor growth.
  • *These findings emphasize the need to study splice variants alongside whole genes and gene fusions in neuro-oncology research to better understand brain cancer mechanisms.

Article Synopsis
  • Butyrophilin-like 2 (BTNL2) is a protein linked to immune responses, particularly related to diseases like sporadic inclusion body myositis and sarcoidosis.
  • BTNL2 is mainly found in the digestive tract, especially in the small intestine and Peyer's patches, and is located in epithelial and dendritic cells.
  • It has a unique structure and does not interact with typical B7 family receptors, indicating its role as a negative regulator of T-cell activity, particularly in inflammatory bowel disease.

4-1BB (CD137) is a member of the TNFR superfamily (TNFRSF9). T cell expression of 4-1BB is restricted to activated cells, and cross-linking has been shown to deliver a costimulatory signal. Here we have shown that treatment of tumor-bearing mice with agonistic 4-1BB-specific Abs can lead to T cell-mediated tumor rejection.
