A case of coexistent poorly differentiated adenosquamous carcinoma (glassy cell carcinoma), usual-type adenocarcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma in situ of the cervix.

Poorly differentiated adenosquamous carcinoma (glassy cell carcinoma) of the cervix is extremely rare, accounting for 1-2% of all cervical cancers. Herein, we report a case with coexistent poorly differentiated adenosquamous carcinoma (glassy cell carcinoma), "usual-type" adenocarcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma in situ of the cervix. A female patient in her 60 s was referred to our hospital and diagnosed with poorly differentiated adenosquamous carcinoma based on cervical cytology and biopsy.

Blockade of the M1 muscarinic acetylcholine receptors impairs eyeblink serial feature-positive discrimination learning in mice.

The serial feature-positive discrimination task requires the subjects to respond differentially to the identical stimulus depending on the temporal context given by a preceding cue stimulus. In the present study, we examined the involvement of the M1 muscarinic acetylcholine receptors using a selective M1 antagonist VU0255035 in the serial feature-positive discrimination task of eyeblink conditioning in mice. In this task, mice received a 2-s light stimulus as the conditional cue 5 or 6 s before the presentation of a 350-ms tone conditioned stimulus (CS) paired with a 100-ms peri-orbital electrical shock (cued trials), while they did not receive the cue before the presentation of the CS alone (non-cued trials).

Change in hippocampal theta oscillation associated with multiple lever presses in a bimanual two-lever choice task for robot control in rats.

Hippocampal theta oscillations have been implicated in working memory and attentional process, which might be useful for the brain-machine interface (BMI). To further elucidate the properties of the hippocampal theta oscillations that can be used in BMI, we investigated hippocampal theta oscillations during a two-lever choice task. During the task body-restrained rats were trained with a food reward to move an e-puck robot towards them by pressing the correct lever, ipsilateral to the robot several times, using the ipsilateral forelimb.

Prenatal and Peripartum Management of Patients with Hypofibrinogenemia Resulted in Two Successful Deliveries.

Fibrinogen is an essential agent involved in maintaining pregnancy and coagulation. Since inherited fibrinogen disorders introduce greater risks for conditions such as placental abruption and postpartum hemorrhage, careful prenatal and perinatal management is essential for this patient population. We report two cases of successful deliveries in patients with hypofibrinogenemia.

The therapeutic effect of CD133(+) cells derived from human umbilical cord blood on neonatal mouse hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy model.

Aims: Brain damage at birth can cause lifelong neurodevelopmental deficits. Recently, stem cell therapies have been used in several fields of medicine. We previously reported that CD133(+) cells, endothelial progenitor cells derived from human umbilical cord blood, induce nerve extension in an ex vivo hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy model.

Role of Muscarinic Acetylcholine Receptors in Serial Feature-Positive Discrimination Task during Eyeblink Conditioning in Mice.

We investigated the role of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChRs) in eyeblink serial feature-positive discrimination learning in mice using the mAChR antagonist. A 2-s light cue was delivered 5 or 6 s before the presentation of a 350-ms tone paired with a 100-ms periorbital electrical shock (cued trial) but not before the tone-alone presentation (non-cued trial). Mice received 30 cued and 30 non-cued trials each day in a random order.

CD133+ cells from human umbilical cord blood reduce cortical damage and promote axonal growth in neonatal rat organ co-cultures exposed to hypoxia.

To evaluate the effect of CD133(+) cells (endothelial progenitor cells) on the hypoxia-induced suppression of axonal growth of cortical neurons and the destruction of blood vessels (endothelial cells), we used anterograde axonal tracing and immunofluorescence in organ co-cultures of the cortex and the spinal cord from 3-day-old neonatal rats. CD133(+) cells prepared from human umbilical cord blood were added to the organ co-cultures after hypoxic insult, and axonal growth, vascular damage and apoptosis were evaluated. Anterograde axonal tracing with 1,1'-dioctadecyl-3,3,3',3'-tetramethylindocarbocyanine perchlorate was used to analyze axonal projections from the cortex to the spinal cord.

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome: Report of a patient with hemangiomas of the vaginal portion of the cervix appearing during pregnancy.

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare disorder showing venous malformations in the skin and gastrointestinal tract, and other internal organs. We encountered a patient with BRBNS in whom hemangiomas of the uterine cervix appeared during pregnancy. This was apparently the first reported occurrence.
