The surveillance of foods for is hindered by bias in common enrichment media where serovars implicated in human illness are outgrown by less virulent serovars. We examined four serovars, two common in human illness (Enteritidis and Typhimurium) and two that often dominate enrichments (Give and Kentucky), for factors that might influence culture bias. The four serovars had similar growth kinetics in Tryptic Soy Broth and Buffered Peptone Water.

We present a study design, pre-analysis plan, process evaluation and baseline results designed to establish the impact of trailbridges on health, education, agricultural and economic outcomes of households in rural Rwanda. This intervention and study is being implemented in communities that face barriers to socioeconomic development through periodic isolation caused by flooding. We describe a mixed methods approach to measure the impacts of these trailbridges on outcomes at the village level.

Skeletal myopathy in a rat model of postmenopausal heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for ∼50% of all patients with heart failure and frequently affects postmenopausal women. The HFpEF condition is phenotype-specific, with skeletal myopathy that is crucial for disease development and progression. However, most of the current preclinical models of HFpEF have not addressed the postmenopausal phenotype.

Screening Diabetic Retinopathy Using an Automated Retinal Image Analysis System in Independent and Assistive Use Cases in Mexico: Randomized Controlled Trial.

Functional analysis of new 3' untranslated regions genetic variants in genes associated with genetic hypercholesterolemias.

Background: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is the best-described autosomal dominant genetic hypercholesterolemia (GH). Mutations in candidate genes can explain a high proportion of FH cases, but for many, no causative mutations are detected (designed non-FG-GH), suggesting the existence of additional genetic variants associated with the disease.

Objective: We aimed to identify new single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) located at the 3' untranslated regions (3'UTRs) of the low-density lipoprotein receptor, low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein-associated protein 1, ATP-binding cassette sub-family G member 5, and sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2 genes in non-FH-GH individuals and investigated whether the association of these SNVs with non-FH-GH could be explained by changes in the affinity of regulatory microRNAs (miRNA) targeting the sequences modified by the SNVs.

Objetive: To determine the correlation between self-perceived and real BMI, and their relation with body image (BI) satisfaction in a sample of Mexican adolescents and adults.

Subjects And Methods: An cross-sectional and analytical study, conformed by 556 participants; of which 330 were adolescents and 217 were adults with anthropometric, self-perception and BI satisfaction assessment.

[Comparison between topical anaesthesia with cocaine versus lidocaine plus adrenaline for outpatient laser dacryocystorhinostomy].

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of topical anaesthesia with cocaine versus lidocaine plus adrenaline for outpatient transcanalicular and endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy (TCLDCR) with diode laser under sedation.

Methods: A double blind randomised clinical trial was designed using topical anaesthesia for outpatient TCLDCR in the treatment of adult epiphora. A total of 92 patients were enrolled, and randomly allocated to be operated on under sedation and topical anaesthesia with cocaine 4% pledgets versus sedation and topical anaesthesia with lidocaine 2% plus 1/100.

Recently, curvature was described as a new trait useful in the analysis of root apex shape. Primary cutaneous nocardiosis in immunocompetent children.

Primary cutaneous nocardiosis is an infrequent opportunistic infection that mainly affects immunodepressed hosts. We describe two immunocompetent patients who exhibited two clinical forms of cutaneous nocardiosis, a mycetoma from walking barefoot in contaminated water and in the case of the other patient a lymphocutaneous form on the basis of a stabbing-cutting injury. In both cases the tests performed ruled out any immunodeficiency, particularly chronic granulomatose disease, since nocardiosis is regarded as an infection that acts as a marker for that illness.
