Background/aims: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the complications of diabetes mellitus (DM). This study aimed to investigate the association between genetic polymorphisms, specifically AGTR1 (rs5186) and TGF-β1 (rs1800470), and the risk of developing Diabetic nephropathy (DN) in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, compared to those without DN and healthy controls.

Methods: A case-control study was conducted on 165 diabetic patients (59 with diabetic nephropathy (DN) and 54 without DN (DM)), and 52 healthy controls (HC).

Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been associated with the hallmark features of cholinergic dysfunction, amyloid beta (Aβ) aggregation and impaired synaptic transmission, which makes the associated proteins, such as β-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE I), acetylcholine esterase (AChE) and synapsin I, II and III, major targets for therapeutic intervention. The present study investigated the therapeutic potential of three major phytochemicals of ursolic acid (UA), rosmarinic acid (RA) and carnosic acid (CA), based on their binding affinity with AD-associated proteins. In the current study, a sustainable approach was adopted for the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles, green synthesis of copper nanoparticles, and the investigation of the phytochemical and biological screening of bark, leaves, and fruits of Ehretia acuminata (belongs to the family Boraginaceae). Subsequently, the prepared nanoparticles and extracted phytochemicals were loaded on cotton fibres. Surface morphology, size, and the presence of antimicrobial agents (phytochemicals and particles) were analysed by scanning electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.

Objective: To determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis B and C among immigrants residing refugee camps in Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan, and to identify possible risk factors for hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) transmission.

Methods: Around 1,225 individuals inhabiting Muzaffarabad refugee camps, participated in the study. A qualitative Immuno-Chromatographic Technique was used for initial screening and PCR test was used for detection of HBV and HCV in participants.

The objective of this study was to synthesize pure ZnO and metal doped ZnO nano-particles, determine its physical, chemical characteristics and antibacterial activity against selected bacterial strains. Pure ZnO was synthesized and metals including Manganese (Mn), Magnesium (Mg), Calcium (Ca), Copper (Cu) and Silver (Ag) were doped with ZnO to produce nanoparticles through co-precipitation method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were used for detection of synthesized nanoparticles, their crystalline structures, size and other chemical characteristics.

Abiotic stresses especially salinity, drought and high temperature result in considerable reduction of crop productivity. In this study, we identified AT4G18280 annotated as a glycine-rich cell wall protein-like (hereafter refer to as GRPL1) protein as a potential multistress-responsive gene. Analysis of public transcriptome data and GUS assay of pGRPL1::GUS showed a strong induction of GRPL1 under drought, salinity and heat stresses.
