1. The effect of the erythrocyte stage of malaria infection on hepatic glucuronidation, biliary excretion and oxidation processes was investigated using harmol, salbutamol, taurocholate and propranolol. Livers from rats infected with the rodent malaria parasite P.

The authors screened blood donors, persons at high risk of infection and patients with post-transfusion hepatitis by the use of the new hepatitis C antibody test. 1.7% of persons donating blood acceptable for use according to current criteria were found positive.

Specificity of the antiserum was tested with Western blotting. Besides the immunoreactivity of the dendrites, remarkably strong immunostaining of the dendritic spines and spine apparatuses was noted in each of the investigated areas.

Five sheep were administered quinine and quinidine separately in random order by a combination of bolus and 30-h iv infusion. On a subsequent occasion, four of the five sheep were also administered the two drugs simultaneously.

Immunohistochemical detection of GABA was used to evaluate changes of the GABA innervation in hippocampal slices maintained in vitro. In parallel experiments the amount of GABA, glutamate and aspartate was measured with high performance liquid chromatography. The results showed that while glutamate and aspartate levels remained fairly constant, GABAergic neurons suffered remarkable alterations.

However, the substrate of raf-1 kinase is unknown and its function is still hypothetical. In cell cultures, mitogen stimulation may alter its properties, including its kinase activity and subcellular distribution.

Results obtained with a new modified method of Hansson provided further evidence for the distinction between the medial and lateral islands of Calleja. The enzyme was localized mainly in the nucleus and cytoplasm of granule cells without showing binding to any cytoplasmic organelle.

We investigated the ontogeny of renal tubular secretion of organic cations in the fetus from 80 days of gestation (term = 145). Sixteen sheep were administered both cimetidine and ranitidine in random order by a combination of bolus and i.

Epirubicin, a stereoisomer of doxorubicin, is reported to have equal antitumor activity with lower cardiac and systemic toxicity. Recently the maximum tolerated dose of this drug has been revised upwards with reported increased response rates. However, the pharmacokinetics of epirubicin at high doses have never been reported.

No raf-1-like staining was seen in unstimulated tissue, while the pan-raf antibodies revealed immunoreactivity in the cytoplasm of neurons in the Ammon's horn and dentate fascia of rats and guinea pigs. The induction of long-term potentiation in the dentate fascia of freely-moving rats triggered the appearance of raf-1-like staining and increased the number of granule cells with pan-raf-like immunoreactivity.
