Background: Pathogenic germline variants in the mismatch repair (MMR) genes are associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer (PCa). Since 2010 we have recommended MMR carriers annual PSA testing from the age of 40. Prospective studies of the outcome of long-term PSA screening are lacking.

Background: Francisellosis, caused by the bacterium Francisella noatunensis subsp. noatunensis, remains a serious threat to Atlantic cod (Gadhus morhua) farming in Norway and potentially in other countries. As outbreak strains appear clonal in population structure, access to highly discriminatory typing tools is critical for understanding the epidemiology of francisellosis infections in aquaculture.

During the 1980s and 1990s wild-caught cod displaying visceral granulomatosis were sporadically identified from the southern North Sea. Presumptive diagnoses at the time included mycobacterial infection, although mycobacteria were never cultivated or observed histologically from these fish. Farmed cod in Norway displaying gross pathology similar to that identified previously in cod from the southern North Sea were recently discovered to be infected with the bacterium Francisella noatunensis subsp, noatunensis.

In Arabidopsis thaliana, the final step of floral organ abscission is regulated by INFLORESCENCE DEFICIENT IN ABSCISSION (IDA): ida mutants fail to abscise floral organs, and plants overexpressing IDA display earlier abscission. We show that five IDA-LIKE (IDL) genes are expressed in different tissues, but plants overexpressing these genes have phenotypes similar to IDA-overexpressing plants, suggesting functional redundancy. IDA/IDL proteins have N-terminal signal peptides and a C-terminal conserved motif (extended PIP [EPIP]) at the C terminus (EPIP-C).
