Health literacy reflects a society's ability to make informed health decisions, and a study assessed the health literacy levels among Malaysian adults for the first time.
The study surveyed 9,478 individuals aged 18 and older, revealing that while most had sufficient health literacy, they scored just above the limit, particularly in healthcare, disease prevention, and health promotion.
Groups with limited health literacy were primarily older adults, those with lower education, and individuals with lower household incomes, indicating that future interventions should target these demographics to improve overall health literacy in Malaysia.
