While Q-waves in inferior leads, particularly lead III, can be regarded as a minor abnormality, it can also indicate the presence of myocardial scar. This study assessed the diagnostic value of pathologic inferior Q-waves (lead II, III, aVF) for detecting ischemic scars using a high-resolution 3.0 T cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between regulatory T cells (Tregs) and ischemic heart disease (IHD), suggesting that dysfunctional Tregs may worsen atherosclerosis, a major contributor to IHD.
  • Using Mendelian randomization, researchers analyzed genetic variants linked to Treg biomarkers to determine their causal effect on IHD, relying on data from extensive genetic studies involving thousands of individuals.
  • The results highlighted four Treg subtypes that may offer protective effects against IHD risk, indicating a significant role for specific Treg profiles in cardiovascular health.

Iron overload cardiomyopathy (IOC) is a condition in which iron deposition in the heart causes cardiac dysfunction. We described a 21-year-old woman who presented with acute chest pain, dyspnea, and fever. The patient had a history of transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT) and secondary hemochromatosis with the latest serum ferritin ranging from 8000 to 15,000.

Risk stratification based mainly on the impairment of left ventricular ejection fraction has limited performance in patients with nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM). Evidence is rapidly growing for the impact of myocardial scar identified by late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) on cardiovascular events. We aim to assess the prognostic value of LGE on long-term arrhythmic and mortality outcomes in patients with NIDCM.

Background: Cannabis is the most used illicit drug in the world. Global trends of decriminalization and legalization of cannabis lead to various forms of cannabis use and bring great concerns over adverse events, particularly in the cardiovascular (CV) system. To date, the association between cannabis and adverse CV events is still controversial.

Background: Double orifice mitral valve (DOMV), a rare congenital heart disease, is characterized by a 2-orifice mitral valve (MV) separated by a tissue bridge, causing a spectacles-like morphology. DOMV can present with various severity ranging from asymptomatic to severe valvular dysfunction including mitral regurgitation (MR) and mitral stenosis (MS), as well as symptoms from coexisting congenital anomalies. Echocardiography is the mainstay of the investigation for a DOMV.

A minority of patients with heart failure present in a high-output state. We described an uncommon case of high-output heart failure caused by an iliac arteriovenous fistula (IAVF), a rare but serious complication after lumbar discectomy surgery (LDS). A 44-year-old man with no notable medical condition except a history of herniated nucleus pulposus necessitating the L4-L5 LDS 5 years ago presented with clinical signs of progressive high-output heart failure.

Background: To establish the reference values of native T1 and extracellular volume (ECV) in patients without structural heart disease and had a negative adenosine stress 3T cardiac magnetic resonance.

Methods: Short-axis T1 mapping images were acquired using a modified Look-Locker inversion recovery technique before and after administration of 0.15 mmol/kg gadobutrol to calculate both native T1 and ECV.

We present a case of pyridostigmine-induced coronary artery spasm in a woman with early-onset myasthenia gravis (MG) who suffered from acute chest discomfort a few days after pyridostigmine dose up-titration. Twelve-lead ECG demonstrated ST-segment elevation in inferior limb leads together with sinus arrest. Sublingual nitrate was immediately given, which rapidly relieved her symptoms concomitantly with the resolution of abnormal ECG findings.

Objective: To assess the prevalence, and factors associated with QTc interval prolongation, among 383 virologically suppressed people with HIV (PWH), without evidence of cardiovascular disease and active opportunistic infections in Thailand.

Design: Cross-sectional study.

Methods: Resting 12-lead digital ECGs were performed in 2019.

Percutaneous mitral commissurotomy (PTMC) and mitral valve replacement (MVR) are treatments of choice for severe rheumatic mitral stenosis (MS). Data regarding the long-term outcomes of patients who underwent PTMC and MVR are limited. A retrospective cohort study was conducted to evaluate the long-term outcomes of patients with severe rheumatic MS who underwent PTMC or MVR between 2010 to 2020.

Background: This study aimed to determine the etiology of stage-D heart failure (HF) and the prevalence and prognosis of misdiagnosed cardiomyopathy in patients undergoing heart transplantation.

Methods And Results: We retrospectively reviewed 127 consecutive patients (mean age, 42 years; 90 [71%], male) from February 1994 to September 2021 admitted for heart transplant in our tertiary center. Pre-transplant clinical diagnosis was compared with post-transplant pathological diagnosis.

Background: Incidence of myocarditis following messenger RNA coronavirus disease 2019 vaccination has been widely described, but this clinical scenario after adenoviral vector coronavirus disease 2019 vaccination has only been rarely reported. In addition, a few case reports of thyroiditis after adenoviral vector coronavirus disease 2019 vaccination have been published.

Case Presentation: A 55-year-old Thai woman presented with palpitation without neck pain 14 days after receiving AstraZeneca coronavirus disease 2019 vaccination.

Introduction: The presence of a Q-wave on a 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) has been considered a marker of a large myocardial infarction (MI). However, the correlation between the presence of Q-waves and nonviable myocardium is still controversial. The aims of this study were to 1) test QWA, a novel ECG approach, to predict transmural extent and scar volume using a 3.

Background And Objectives: Drainage of symptomatic walled-off peripancreatic fluid collections (WPFCs) can be achieved by endoscopic, percutaneous, and surgical techniques. The aim of this study was to determine the current trends in management of WPFCs and the outcome of such modalities in Asian population.

Methods: In this retrospective analysis, all patients diagnosed with pancreatitis from 2013 to 2016 in King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand, were analyzed.
