Introduction: Robot-assisted transabdominal preperitoneal inguinal hernia repair (RTAPP) has been rapidly gaining popularity. However, RTAPP is currently limited to university hospitals and large medical centers and is performed mainly by experts in robotic surgery in Japan. In this study, we report the introduction of RTAPP at a municipal hospital by a robotic surgery novice and its short-term outcomes.

However, the difference between the relation of upper extremity muscle and of lower extremity muscle with physiological factors is unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the association between physiological data and muscle strength, measured using grip and leg extension strength, among Japanese adults.

Methods: A total of 262 patients surgically treated for intertrochanteric or femoral neck fractures between August 2015 and August 2022 were enrolled. After adjusting for propensity score matching, 50 patients were included in this analysis.
Background: To date, no clinical studies have investigated the relationship between positioning pain and orientation of the lateral decubitus position for hip fracture surgery. The aim of the present study was to test the hypothesis that performing spinal anesthesia in the lateral decubitus position with the fracture side up or down does not affect positioning pain in patients with a femoral neck fracture.
Methods: This single-center, prospective, randomized non-inferiority trial examined 78 patients who received surgery for a femoral neck fracture under spinal anesthesia.

Objective: Gynecologic cancer, including cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancer, comprises the fifth leading type of cancer and is an important malignant disease in women. Previous studies in Western countries have reported respective prevalence rates for venous thromboembolism (VTE) of 3.3%-18.

Background: The SedLine sensor processes (Masimo Corporation; Irvine, CA, USA) raw electroencephalogram (EEG) signals and displays the depth of sedation as a Patient State Index (PSi). Reliance on standard processed EEG data and failure to recognize age-related effects can lead to an erroneous interpretation that low-amplitude EEG findings in an older patient signify an insufficient depth of anesthesia presented as abnormally high PSi values (AHPSi). We hypothesized that the incidence of AHPSi would decrease with the use of the recently-updated version of the SedLine sensor, in which the Bispectral Index (BIS) values were used to titrate anesthesia.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of death from cancer in Japan. Studies in other countries have reported a venous thromboembolism (VTE) rate of 4%-20% in cancer patients. In this study, we aimed to determine the incidence of VTE in lung cancer patients in Japan and compared the characteristics of patients with and without VTE.

It carries an extremely high cardiovascular risk associated with significantly elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. The diagnostic rate of this disease in some European nations is quite high, due to the presence of multiple prospective registries.

Case Presentation: A 64-year-old woman with epilepsy with complex partial seizures underwent total knee arthroplasty.
The Oxygen Reserve Index (ORi™) is a non-invasive variable that reflects oxygenation continuously. The aims of this study were to examine the relationship between arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO) and ORi during general anesthesia, and to investigate the usefulness of ORi as an indicator to avoid hyperoxia. Twenty adult patients who were scheduled for surgery under general anesthesia with arterial catheterization were enrolled.

The aim of this study was to examine the usefulness of ORi for rapid sequence induction (RSI). Twenty adult patients who were scheduled for surgical procedures under general anesthesia were enrolled.

An electrocardiogram and echocardiogram revealed an ST elevated acute lateral myocardial infarction. He underwent an immediate cardiac catheterization.

He had been undergoing continuous dual antiplatelet therapy. Emergency coronary angiography showed total thrombotic occlusion and peri-stent contrast staining at the SES site.

Methods: CETP gene analysis of genomic DNA from subjects was performed by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) and sequencing analysis.
A 61-year-old Japanese male was admitted to hospital due to severe congestive heart failure and pre-renal failure with middle aortic syndrome. The patient was successfully treated with emergent aortic angioplasty and kissing stents implantation whilst in a hemodynamically unstable state. Our experience confirms that stenosis of the descending aorta when treated with catheter intervention may be palliative, however, it was a very effective method for life threatening clinical conditions in the short and mid-term and may be an alternative to surgery.
