Impact of bedaquiline regimen on the treatment success rates of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis patients in Egypt.

Bedaquiline (BDQ), an innovative anti-tuberculous (TB) agent, has attracted attention for its potential effectiveness against drug-resistant TB. This study investigated the impact of BDQ-containing regimens on treatment success rates among multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patients in Egypt. We conducted a prospective cohort study that included all adult non-pregnant patients treated in MDR-TB centers in Egypt from April 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021, with follow-up extended until December 31, 2022.

The effect of chitosan-PMAA-NPK nanofertilizer on plants.

The use of chitosan (CS) as a carrier for slow fertilizer release is a novel trend. The potential effect of this system in agriculture is still debatable. Here, chitosan (CS) nanoparticles were obtained by polymerizing methacrylic acid (PMAA) for the entrapment of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium (NPK) nanoparticles (NP), each at a time to form CS-PMAA-NPK NPs complex.

Do cancer cells in human and meristematic cells in plant exhibit similar responses toward plant extracts with cytotoxic activities?

We examined the effect of water extracts of Persea americana fruit, and of the leaves of Tabernamontana divericata, Nerium oleander and Annona cherimolia (positive control) on Vicia faba root cells. We had confirmed in our previously published data the cytotoxicity of these plant extracts on four human cancer cell lines: liver (HepG-2), lung (A549), colon (HT-29) and breast (MCF-7). Vicia faba roots were soaked in plant extracts at dilutions of 100, 1,250, 2,500, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000 ppm for 4 and 24 h.

Hyperphosphatemia among end-stage renal disease patients in developing countries: a forgotten issue?

The prevalence of hyperphosphatemia and increased calcium-phosphorus product has never been evaluated in a large multicenter study in a developing country. Our aim is to study the prevalence of hyperphosphatemia in 38 HD centers in Egypt (as an example of a developing country) and to correlate it with different co-morbid conditions and the patient's demographic data. This is a cross-sectional study conducted on 1005 chronic kidney disease stage 5 patients (CKD-stage 5) on HD for a period of more than 1 year in 38 dialysis centers in Egypt.
