Growing evidence suggests that people with autoimmune conditions may be at increased risk of hepatobiliary tumors. In the present study, we evaluated associations between autoimmune conditions and hepatobiliary cancers among adults aged ≥66 in the United States. We used Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER)-Medicare data (1992-2013) to conduct a population-based, case-control study.

Holstein-Gyr crossbred cattle are strategic for dairy systems in tropical countries, since they combine milk yield genetics with adaptability to tropical climate. However, Holstein () and Gyr () breeds present remarkable differences regarding reproductive physiology. Brazil stands out as the world's largest user of embryo production (IVP) in bovine, and the use of this technique is increasing in dairy systems.

Objective: to validate an educational technology to support the action of health professionals with people living with HIV.

Method: methodological study with data collection using a four-point Likert scale for evaluation by eleven judges and 51 people living with HIV. The data were tabulated, processed, and analyzed by inferential and descriptive statistics, Cronbach's alpha test, and Kruskal-Wallis for reliability and internal consistency analyses.

In this experiment, 170 experimental false starts on human (120 lesions) and pig bones (50 lesions) were analyzed under stereomicroscope. The goal was to evaluate the potential of three "secondary" features (patterns of striae on the kerf floor, blade drift and bone islands) to diagnose saw class and saw set. We also assessed the performance of each of these features in ambiguous cases observed in a previous study, based on three main characters (minimum width of the kerf, shape of the kerf walls, and shape of the kerf profile).

Background: Patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain have a higher chance of presenting impairment in cardiovascular autonomic modulation, which may have implications for cardiovascular events. The autonomic nervous system plays an important role in pain modulation. However, it is unclear whether patients with inefficient descending nociceptive inhibition have poorer cardiovascular autonomic modulation.

Unlabelled: The association of genetic polymorphisms with low bone mineral density in elite athletes have not been considered previously. The present study found that bone mass phenotypes in elite and pre-elite dancers are related to genetic variants at the Wnt/β-catenin and ER pathways.

Introduction: Some athletes (e.

Popliteal artery aneurysms account for 70% of peripheral aneurysms and must be treated surgically. The results of endovascular treatment are controversial. The objective of this study is to conduct a literature review on comparisons between open surgery and endovascular treatment for popliteal artery aneurysms.

Cells rich in mitochondria were isolated from gills of the seawater clam Mesodesma mactroides, incubated in isosmotic saline solution (840 mOsmol/kg HO), and exposed (3 h) to environmentally realistic Cu concentrations (nominally: 0, 5, 9 and 20 μg/L). In cells exposed to 20 μg Cu/L, Cu accumulation, Na content reduction and carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity inhibition were observed, without significant changes in cell viability and Na,K-ATPase (NKA) activity. In the absence of Cu, cell viability and Cu content were reduced in hyposmotic media respect with the control, without changes in Na content and enzyme (CA and NKA) activities.

Introduction: Chronic low back pain is a public health problem, and there is strong evidence that it is associated with a complex interaction of biopsychosocial factors. Cognitive functional therapy is an intervention that deals with potentially modifiable multidimensional aspects of pain (eg, provocative cognitive, movement and lifestyle behaviours). There is evidence (from a single randomised, controlled trial) that cognitive functional therapy is better than combined manual therapy and motor control exercise.

Background: The objectives of this study were to determine the minimum incidence of penile cancer in the poorest Brazilian state, and to describe the epidemiologic and clinical characteristics of patients diagnosed with the disease.

Methods: A retrospective study of 392 patients diagnosed with penile cancer in the three most important referral center in the state was conducted during 2004-2014.

Results: The age-standardized incidence was 6.

Key Points: Cigarette smoke components directly alter muscle fatigue resistance and intracellular muscle fibre Ca handling independent of a change in lung structure. Changes in muscle vascular structure are associated with a depletion of satellite cells. Sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca uptake is substantially impaired in myofibres during fatiguing contractions in mice treated with cigarette smoke extract.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of reusing drills and piezosurgery tips during implant osteotomy on immediate bone cell viability through immunohistochemical analysis.

Materials And Methods: Six male rabbits were divided into 2 groups and then divided into 5 subgroups-correspond to drills and tips used 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 times, respectively. All animals received 10 osteotomies in each tibia, by use of the classic drilling procedure in one group (G1) and the piezosurgery device in the other group (G2).

The synthesis of molybdenum(0) tricarbonyl and tetracarbonyl complexes of the form [Mo(CO)(ptapzpy)Br] (1) and -[Mo(CO)(ptapzpy)]Br (2) is reported, where ptapzpy = 2-(1-propyltrimethylammonium-3-pyrazolyl)pyridine. Preparation of these derivatives was accomplished either through thermal replacement of CO in Mo(CO) (for 1) or substitution under milder conditions of piperidine ligands in the precursor -[Mo(CO)(pip)] (for 2). The crystal structures of the ligand [ptapzpy]Br and complexes 1 and 2 were determined.

Phosphine is a highly toxic gas that forms when aluminum phosphide, a restricted-use pesticide* typically used in agricultural settings, reacts with water. Acute exposure can lead to a wide range of respiratory, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal symptoms, and can be fatal (1). On January 2, 2017, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) was notified by the Texas Panhandle Poison Center of an acute phosphine exposure incident in Amarillo, Texas.

Background: The objective of this study is to propose three new adjustments to the Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS) equation and compare their performances with the original TRISS as well as this index with coefficients adjusted for the study population.

Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study evaluated trauma victims admitted to two hospitals in São Paulo-Brazil and San Diego-EUA between January 1st, 2006, and December 31st, 2010. The proposed models included a New Trauma and Injury Severity Score (NTRISS)-like model that included Best Motor Response (BMR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), New Injury Severity Score (NISS), and age variables; a TRISS peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO) model that included Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), SBP, SpO, Injury Severity Score, and age variables; and a NTRISS-like SpO model that included BMR, SBP, SpO, NISS, and age variables.

Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) has been closely linked with therapy resistance and cancer stem cells (CSCs). However, EMT pathways have proven challenging to therapeutically target. MicroRNA 145 (miR-145) targets multiple stem cell transcription factors and its expression is inversely correlated with EMT.

The role of seawater NOM in reducing metal toxicity for marine organisms is not well understood. We investigated the effects of five different marine NOMs (two autochthonous, one allochthonous, two of mixed origin, at 8 mg C/L), three metals (6 μg Cu/L; 20 μg Pb/L; 25 μg Zn/L), and combinations between them, to early life stages of Mytilus trossulus (a North Pacific native) in 48-h tests. Endpoints were whole body Ca+Mg-ATPase activity, carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity and lipid peroxidation.
