The influence of various processing conditions on the singlet exciton diffusion is explored in films of a conjugated random copolymer poly-(3-hexylthiophene-co-3-dodecylthiophene) (P3HT-co-P3DDT) and correlated with the degree of crystallinity probed by grazing incidence X-ray scattering and with exciton bandwidth determined from absorption spectra. The exciton diffusion coefficient is deduced from exciton-exciton annihilation measurements and is found to increase by more than a factor of three when thin films are annealed using CS solvent vapour. A doubling of exciton diffusion coefficient is observed upon melt annealing at 200 °C and the corresponding films show about 50% enhancement in the degree of crystallinity.

Regioisomers of bithiophene derivatives are easily synthesized by playing on the strong electronic dissymmetry of the thiophene ring induced by the alkoxy and cyano groups.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA series of 3,6-dialkoxythieno[3,2-b]thiophenes have been synthesized through three synthetic pathways. Symmetrical derivatives have been obtained from 3,6-dibromothieno[3,2-b]thiophene or by trans-etherification of 3,6-dimethoxythieno[3,2-b]thiophene while unsymmetrical derivatives have been easily prepared from the readily accessible dimethyl 3-hydroxythiophene-2,5-dicarboxylate. These compounds have been used as precursors for electropolymerisation and a first characterisation of the electronic properties of the resulting polymers is presented.

These new platinum complexes consist of a tridentate ligand substituted by a high electron acceptor, and a chloro or an arylacetylide ligand. The hyper-Rayleigh scattering measurements reveal that these complexes display large quadratic hyperpolarizabilities reaching a dynamic value of 1460 x 10(-30) at 1064 nm esu for the best complex.

The yields for the dialkoxy derivatives were strongly dependent both on the base and the alkylating agent used for the nucleophilic substitutions. A trimer associating the new 3,4-ethylenedioxy-thieno[2,3-b]thiophene unit with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene moieties has been synthesized and electropolymerized.
