Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) is a significant concern for skin and soft tissue infections. Apart from biofilm formation, these bacteria can reside intracellularly in phagocytic and nonphagocytic mammalian cells, complicating treatment with conventional antibiotics. Lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticle (LPN) systems, combining the advantages of polymeric nanoparticles and liposomes, represent a new generation of nanocarriers with the potential to address these therapeutic challenges.

We aimed to compare the combinatorial effect of 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid (THB) and oregano extracts (OE) with THB alone on the growth performance and elimination of deleterious effects in coccidiosis-infected broilers. A total of 210 one-day-old broilers were randomly assigned to one of five dietary treatments, with six replicates each, for 35 days. Dietary treatments were: 1) non-challenged, non-treated (NC); 2) challenged, non-treated (PC); 3) PC+ Salinomycin (0.

Article Synopsis
  • Kefir grains are complex mixtures of bacteria and yeasts that may offer health benefits in milk and water kefir drinks, and the study aimed to explore the microbial communities found in these grains.
  • A total of 158 microbial strains were isolated from kefir grains sourced from a homebrewer in Singapore, with a focus on identifying potential probiotics that can inhibit harmful enteric pathogens.
  • The research successfully identified seven bacterial strains with beneficial probiotic characteristics and potential health advantages, leading to the creation of a "kefir probiotics blend" that could help combat enteric infections.

This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of a combination 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid (THB) and oregano extracts (i.e., Carvacrol and Thymol) at intake/dietary different levels on growth performance, intestinal health indicators, immune responses and fecal oocyst shedding in broiler chickens under challenged condition.

Quorum sensing (QS) can function to shape the microbial community interactions, composition, and function. In wastewater treatment systems, acylated homoserine lactone (AHL)-based QS has been correlated with the conversion of floccular biomass into microbial granules, as well as EPS production and the nitrogen removal process. However, the role of QS in such complex communities is still not fully understood, including the QS-proficient taxa and the functional QS genes involved.

() biofilms are implicated in endocarditis, urinary tract infections, and biliary tract infections. Coupled with internalization into host cells, this opportunistic pathogen poses great challenges to conventional antibiotic therapy. The inability of ampicillin (Amp) to eradicate bacteria hidden in biofilms and intracellular niches greatly reduces its efficacy against complicated infections.

Bacteria enmeshed in an extracellular matrix, biofilms, exhibit enhanced antibiotic tolerance. Coupled with the rapid emergence of multidrug-resistant strains, the current cohorts of antibiotics are becoming ineffective. Alternative antimicrobial approaches are therefore urgently needed to overcome recalcitrant biofilm infections.
