Quantum quench dynamics of geometrically frustrated Ising models.

Geometric frustration in two-dimensional Ising models allows for a wealth of exotic universal behavior, both Ising and non-Ising, in the presence of quantum fluctuations. In particular, the triangular antiferromagnet and Villain model in a transverse field can be understood through distinct XY pseudospins, but have qualitatively similar phase diagrams including a quantum phase transition in the (2+1)-dimensional XY universality class. While the quantum dynamics of modestly-sized systems can be simulated classically using tensor-based methods, these methods become infeasible for larger lattices.

Surgical Excision of Pulmonary Metastases of Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare malignancy of mesenchymal origin of medium-low grade with a tendency to local recurrences but not to distant metastases. We present the case of a 37-year-old male who underwent surgical resection of a 1.2 cm DFSP lesion on the left shoulder in May 2020.

A Unique Association of Right-Sided Aortic Arch With Kommerell's Diverticulum, Diffuse Idiopathic Pulmonary Neuroendocrine Cell Hyperplasia, and Typical Carcinoid: A Case Report.

Our case presents a unique occurrence marking the first documentation of a connection between a typical carcinoid in the context of diffuse idiopathic pulmonary neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia (DIPNECH) and vascular anomalies, including a right-sided aortic arch with Kommerell's diverticulum. Kommerell's diverticulum is a rare congenital anomaly. The lusoria subclavian artery, another developmental anomaly, arises from the right aortic arch instead of the typical left side.

Uniportal Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Anatomic Lung Resection after Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy for Lung Cancer: A Case-Matched Analysis.

Background: The advantages of video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) are well-recognized in several studies. However, in the cases of advanced lung cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (nCT), the role of VATS is still questionable, with concerns about safety, technical feasibility, and oncological completeness. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of nCT on patients who had undergone uniportal VATS (U-VATS) anatomic lung resections for lung cancer, by comparing the short-term outcomes of patients after nCT with case-matched counterparts (treated by surgery alone).

Foraging dives of southern right whales (Eubalaena australis) in relation to larger zooplankton size prey availability in Golfo Nuevo, Península Valdés, Argentina.

Southern right whales (SRWs, Eubalaena australis) have been observed feeding both at and below the surface (< 10 m) in Golfo Nuevo (42°42' S, 64°30' W), Península Valdés, Argentina, an area traditionally recognized as calving ground. In addition, we documented diving feeding behavior in SRWs during their stay in this gulf, which has not been previously described. We assessed this behavior using suction-cup-attached video-imaging tags (CRITTERCAMs) on individual whales.

A Rare Case of Cervico-Mediastinal Thyroid Teratoma.

Teratomas are rare germ cell tumors derived from multiple germinal cell layers. Thyroid teratomas, specifically, are exceptionally uncommon and present unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Here, we report a case of cervico-mediastinal thyroid teratoma, highlighting diagnostic difficulties and surgical management.

This study aims to define the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of non-predominant lepidic invasive adenocarcinoma presenting as Ground Glass Opacity (GGO) nodules. The goal is to assess statistical relationships between histology, tumor size, location, and the incidence of relapse and lymph node dissemination. A retrospective multicenter study was conducted, including patients with GGO observed on CT scans between 2003 and 2021.

The Efficacy of Continuous Serratus Anterior and Erector Spinae Plane Blocks vs Intercostal Nerve Block in Uniportal-Vats Surgery: A Propensity-Matched Prospective Trial.

Background: To evaluate the analgesic efficacy of continuous erector spinae plane block(c-ESPB) and serratus anterior plane block(c-SAPB) versus the intercostal nerve block (ICNB) in Uniportal-VATS in terms of pain control, drug consumption, and complications.

Methods: Ninety-three consecutive patients, undergone one of the three peripheral nerve blocks after Uniportal-VATS, were prospectively enrolled. A 1:1 propensity score matching was used to minimize bias.

Phytoplanktonic community and bio-optical properties in coastal waters of an Argentinian Patagonian gulf.

The influence of the phytoplankton community in the light absorption budget was quantified in coastal waters of the North region of the San Jorge Gulf (Argentinian Patagonia). The phytoplanktonic composition and their absorption spectra were determined. Nanoflagellates and diatoms were the dominant groups.

Signatures of Dissipation Driven Quantum Phase Transition in Rabi Model.

By using the worldline Monte Carlo technique, matrix product state, and a variational approach à la Feynman, we investigate the equilibrium properties and relaxation features of the dissipative quantum Rabi model, where a two level system is coupled to a linear harmonic oscillator embedded in a viscous fluid. We show that, in the Ohmic regime, a Beretzinski-Kosterlitz-Thouless quantum phase transition occurs by varying the coupling strength between the two level system and the oscillator. This is a nonperturbative result, occurring even for extremely low dissipation magnitude.

Reducing Post-Operative Alveolo-Pleural Fistula by Applying PGA-Sheets (Neoveil) after Major Lung Resection: A Historical Case-Control Study.

Alveolo-pleural fistula remains a serious post-operative complication in lung cancer patients after surgery, which is associated with prolonged hospital stay and higher healthcare costs. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of a polyglycol acid (PGA)-sheet known as Neoveil in preventing post-operative air-leak in cases of detected intra-operative air-leak after lung resection. Between 11/2021 and 7/2022, a total of 329 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients were surgically treated in two institutions.

Effect of postoperative systemic prednisolone on short-term and long-term outcomes in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps: A multi-centered randomized clinical trial.

Introduction: The objective of this study was to determine whether postoperative additive systemic steroid administration in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) impacted selected endoscopic, subjective and objective outcome measures.
