The relationship between dental diseases and the prevalence of digestive system cancers remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to examine the prevalence of dental diseases in patients treated for digestive system cancers.The medical and dental records of patients treated for digestive system cancers were retrospectively reviewed, and the results obtained (decayed/filled/missing teeth [DMFT] indices and community periodontal index [CPI] codes) were compared with data from the national survey of dental diseases in order to investigate the relationship between oral health and digestive system cancers.

Treatment outcomes and prognostic factors of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw: a case- and literature-based review.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the treatment outcomes and prognostic factors of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in Japanese patients.

Patients And Methods: Among 409 cases, treatment outcomes and prognostic factors were investigated in 275 patients. In statistical analyses, the 1-year cumulative curative rate was calculated with the Kaplan-Meier method, and significance was examined with the Wilcoxon test.

Healthy life expectancy of oral squamous cell carcinoma patients aged 75years and older.

Objectives: Healthy life expectancy, an extension of the concept of life expectancy, is a summary measure of population health that takes into account the mortality and morbidity of a population. The aim of the present study was to retrospectively analyze the self-reliance survival times of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients.

A little is known about the effect of radiotherapy on the dental implants that have previously been osseointegrated and charged. Here, we reported a case of osteoradionecrosis which arose around dental implants placed before radiation therapy.

Marked decrease of plasma VEGF after implantation of autologous bone marrow mononuclear cells in a patient with critical limb ischemia--a case report.

The authors performed autologous bone marrow mononuclear cells implantation (BMI) in a 79-year-old man with critical limb ischemia. After BMI, the resting pain of the ischemic leg improved gradually. They measured the plasma concentrations of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), and serum hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) in the blood from bilateral femoral veins.

Clinical application of bone marrow implantation in patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans, and the association between efficacy and the number of implanted bone marrow cells.

Background: There have been a number of recent reports on the use of autologous bone marrow implantation (BMI) in the treatment of peripheral arterial disease, with a clinical response rate of approximately 70%. However, the factors that influence efficacy have not yet been clarified. We have analyzed the relationship between the number of implanted bone marrow cells and the clinical efficacy of BMI.

Therapeutic role of pericardiocentesis for acute necrotizing eosinophilic myocarditis with cardiac tamponade.

We describe a patient with acute necrotizing eosinophilic myocarditis who recovered rapidly after pericardial drainage and without corticosteroid therapy. The 25-year- old man was referred to our hospital with suspected acute myocardial infarction on the basis of severe epigastralgia, abnormal Q waves and ST elevation on electrocardiography, and an increase in cardiac enzymes. Echocardiography disclosed pericardial effusion that compressed the right ventricle, left ventricular dysfunction in conjunction with posterolateral hypokinesis, and a thickened ventricular wall but no mural thrombus.
