Introduction: Urban and transport planning, environmental exposures, physical activity and human health are strictly linked. The aim of this study was to analyze the determinants of sustainable and active mobility in 4 Italian provinces.

Materials And Methods: An online multiple-choice survey was administered via Google Form between October 2019 and February 2020.

Patients with diffused Systemic Sclerosis (dSSc) are more subject to severe respiratory complications with higher rates of intensive care unit (ICU) admission. Vaccination represents the most effective means of prevention and care for frail patients, such as SSc patients, preventing infections, reducing mortality and morbidity, and granting a better quality of life. Both vaccinations against seasonal influenza and Streptococcus pneumoniae are currently recommended by the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) guidelines on vaccination.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic disease. The prevalence of SSc ranges from 7 to 700 cases per million worldwide. Due to multiple organ involvement and constant inflammatory state, this group of patients presents an increased risk of infectious diseases.

Systemic sclerosis (scleroderma, SSc) is an autoimmune connective tissue disease characterized by excessive production of collagen and multiorgan involvement. Scleroderma patients are at increased risk of influenza complications and pneumonia; thus, vaccinations are recommended. This systematic review evaluated the influenza and pneumococcus vaccination coverage for SSc patients.

Currently, limited data on maternal and neonatal outcomes of pregnant women with infection and pneumonia related to SARS coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are available. Our report aims to describe a case of placental swabs positive for the molecular research on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2 RNA in an asymptomatic woman with positive rhino-pharyngeal swab for SARS-CoV-2 who underwent an urgent cesarean section in our obstetrics unit. Sample collection, processing, and laboratory testing were conducted in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO) guidance.

Aim: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the etiologic agent of the majority of cervical intraepithelial lesions (CIN) and cervical cancers. While prophylactic HPV vaccines prevent infections from the main high-risk HPV types associated with cervical cancer, alternative nonsurgical and nonablative therapeutics to treat HPV infection and preinvasive HPV diseases have been experimentally investigated. Therapeutic vaccines are an emerging investigational strategy.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is the connective tissue disease with the highest mortality and patients with chronic inflammatory immune-mediated diseases are at high risk of acquiring infections as they are often treated with immunosuppressive or biological drugs. This study, conducted among the patients followed by our clinical immunology, part of the Internal Medicine Department in the Ospedale Policlinico San Martino, Genoa, northwest Italy, has set itself the primary objective of analyzing the vaccine uptake and the vaccination coverage against both seasonal influenza and S. pneumoniae in a cohort of patients with SSc.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of a risk calculator that includes renal function as compared with that of the traditional Framingham Risk Score (FRS) in predicting the risk of mortality of hypertensive individuals managed in primary care.

Methods: From the databases of British and Italian General Practitioners, we retrieved demographic and clinical data for 35 101 UK and 27 818 Italian individuals aged 35-74 years with a diagnosis of hypertension. Then, the 5-year incidence of cardiovascular events as well as all-cause and cardiovascular mortality were recorded for both samples.

Background: Subclinical cardiac damage has recently emerged as a potential predictor of adverse renal outcome. We therefore retrospectively evaluated the effect of left-ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), diagnosed electrocardiographically, on the renal outcome of hypertensive patients managed in primary care.

Methods: From a historical cohort of 39,525 hypertensive individuals evaluated in 2005, we retrieved 5-year data of the 18,510 surviving subjects for whom renal follow-up was available.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with poor renal and cardiovascular outcomes, and early identification largely depends on general practitioners' (GPs') awareness of it. To date, no study has evaluated CKD prevalence in patients with hypertension in primary care.

Study Design: Cross-sectional evaluation of the Italian GPs' database.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with poor renal and cardiovascular (CV) outcome, and early identification largely depends on the general practitioners' (GPs) awareness of it. Only a few studies have evaluated the prevalence of CKD in type 2 diabetes in primary care, and no studies are available on hypertensive diabetics. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of CKD and its association with CV morbidity in such a population.

Carbonyl groups result from protein oxidation and their level in tissues and plasma is a relatively stable marker of oxidative damage. Carbonyl content of plasma proteins in 43 type 2 diabetic subjects, 30-87 years of age (25 males and 18 females) and in 20 age-matched healthy controls (31-89 years of age, 12 males and 8 females) was evaluated with 2,4-dinitro-phenyl-hydrazine method. In both groups, lipids, tocopherols (HPLC) and glycated hemoglobin (HPLC) were studied.

Blood glucose control plays a prominent role in the aetiology of diabetic complications. Recent data support the hypothesis that non-enzymatic pathways (glycation and oxidation) are involved in the pathogenesis of tissue damage in diabetes mellitus. In this study the level of pentosidine, a marker of glycation, and the intensity of collagen-linked fluorescence glycation (370/440 and 335/385 nm) and oxidation-related (356/460 and 390/460 nm), have been examined in spontaneously diabetic rats with good and poor glycaemic control.

Background: Glycation and oxidation are spontaneous chemical modifications of body proteins. Usually these reactions have been studied separately by assessing their fluorescent final products. Glycation of protein and its related fluorescence increases during aging, whereas the level of the fluorescence related to protein adducts from lipoperoxidation side products is unknown.

The relationships between plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) and metabolic parameters in type I and II diabetic subjects have been studied at different levels of glycemic control. In 67 diabetics (20 type I, 47 type II, aged 53 +/- 1.2) and 40 healthy subjects (aged 47 +/- 1.

Beta-cell secretion is still a point of controversy. As the liver is the major site of insulin metabolism, evaluation of hepatic insulin extraction is crucial for correct measurement of beta-cell secretion. Methods for calculating the secretion and hepatic extraction of insulin indirectly from peripheral C-peptide concentration have been proposed by some investigators.

Trophic lesions of the lower limbs are very frequent in diabetic patients, especially after long periods of poor glycemic control. These lesions are caused by some diabetic sequelae, namely neuropathy and angiopathy. The human and social cost of trophic lesions is very high; for this reason education of diabetics who are likely to develop such lesions is extremely important.
