Transition from straight lateral to direct anterior approach in total hip arthroplasty: a retrospective single-centre study.

Introduction: The muscle-sparing direct anterior approach (DAA) for total hip arthroplasty (THA) has gained popularity for reduced postoperative pain and faster rehabilitation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential benefits of transitioning from straight lateral approach (SLA) THA to DAA THA, and investigate whether these benefits outweigh potential disadvantages of the DAA learning curve.

Method: Patients undergoing surgery between 2015 and 2020 ( = 2275) were categorised into three periods: pre-transition period (2015-2016) utilizing SLA exclusively, transition period (2017-2018) incorporating both SLA and DAA, and post-transition period (2019-2020) employing only DAA.

Agreement between patient- and proxy-reported outcome measures in adult musculoskeletal trauma and injury: a scoping review.

Purpose: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are widely used in medicine. As older adults, who may rely on a proxy caregiver for answers due to cognitive impairment, are representing an increasing share of the traumatically injured patient population, proxy-reported outcome measures (proxROMs) offer a valuable alternative source of patient-centered information although its association with PROMs is unclear. The objective of this scoping review is to discuss all available literature comparing PROM and proxROMs in adult patients with musculoskeletal trauma to guide future research in this field.

The incidence of vertebral compression fractures and spinal instability in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients.

Background: Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematologic malignancy, characterized by clonal proliferation of plasma cells in the bone marrow. These plasma cell proliferations frequently result in scattered osteolytic bone lesions and extensive skeletal destruction. Myeloma bone lesions are frequently located in the spine, and are associated with debilitating bone pain and an increased rate of pathologic fractures and mortality.

Long-term quality of life outcome after spondylodiscitis treatment.

Background Context: Spondylodiscitis is the most common spinal infection of which the incidence has increased and the peak prevalence is between 50 and 70 years of age. Spondylodiscitis is often a complication of a distant infection. Early diagnosis can be challenging, and although improvements in diagnostic techniques and modern therapy have diminished the mortality of the disease, current literature about the outcome of spondylodiscitis is scarce.
