Metabostemness in cancer: Linking metaboloepigenetics and mitophagy in remodeling cancer stem cells.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are rare populations of malignant cells with stem cell-like features of self-renewal, uninterrupted differentiation, tumorigenicity, and resistance to conventional therapeutic agents, and these cells have a decisive role in treatment failure and tumor relapse. The self-renewal potential of CSCs with atypical activation of developmental signaling pathways involves the maintenance of stemness to support cancer progression. The acquisition of stemness in CSCs has been accomplished through genetic and epigenetic rewiring following the metabolic switch.

Ultrasensitive detection of tumor-specific mutations in saliva of patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma.

Background: Oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) is the most common head and neck malignancy. Although the survival rate of patients with advanced-stage disease remains approximately 20% to 60%, when detected at an early stage, the survival rate approaches 80%, posing a pressing need for a well validated profiling method to assess patients who have a high risk of developing OCSCC. Tumor DNA detection in saliva may provide a robust biomarker platform that overcomes the limitations of current diagnostic tests.

Epidemiological Features and Management of Oral Cancer Patients: Experience from a Single Private Comprehensive Cancer Care Center in the State of Odisha.

Oral cancer is the most common cancer in India. Challenges in the management of oral cancer patients in India include, delay in the presentation with high volume of advanced disease to be handled, affordability of patients and lack economical support especially in the non-governmental institutions and lack of awareness among patients and their relatives. Present study, a retrospective analysis of a prospectively maintained data, portrays the epidemiological features and management of patients with oral cancer presented to a private comprehensive cancer care hospital in the state of Odisha, India.

Operable Oral Tongue Squamous Cell Cancer: 15 Years Experience at a Tertiary Care Center in North India.

The aim of the present study was to provide insight into various demographic, clinical, and management profile of Indian patients with oral tongue squamous cell cancer (OTSCC). All the OTSCC patients who had undergone surgical treatment during 1995 to 2010 at a tertiary care center in North India were considered for the present study. The details of the patients were retrieved from a prospectively maintained computerized database.

Clinical Spectrum, Treatment and Relapse Patterns in 353 Patients with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Alveobuccal Complex Treated with a Curative Intent: A Retrospective Study.

Aims And Objectives: Oral cancer is one of the most common cancers in Indian subcontinent with alveobuccal complex as most common cancer sub site. Cancers of Alveobuccal complex provides maximum challenge and management guidelines are not clear. The aim of the present study is to provide comprehensive demographic, clinical and treatment outcome data of alveobuccal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) patients treated at a tertiary care cancer center in North India.

Extra-Hepatic Bile Duct Resection: an Insight in the Management of Gallbladder Cancer.

Background: Involvement of extrahepatic bile duct in gallbladder cancer (GBC) is considered a sign of advanced disease; resection of extrahepatic bile duct in GBC has been a contentious issue considering the poor prognosis of the disease.

Methods: This retrospective study was done in two tertiary teaching hospitals of North India. The case records of all the GBC patients who underwent radical cholecystectomy with extra-hepatic bile duct resection were reviewed.

A review of controversies in the management of soft tissue sarcomas.

Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) constitute a rare and challenging group of solid tumor in the field of oncology. Unlike other malignancies STS can affect a wide variety of anatomical regions in the body with varied histo-pathological variants and clinical outcomes. There are controversies in the diagnosis and management of STS due to rarity and heterogeneity of the disease entity.

Role of surgery in breast metastasis from carcinoma of the cervix.

Carcinoma of the cervix is the most common malignancy among women in India. Although metastatic disease is common, metastasis to breast is rare. A limited number of case reports are published in the world literature.
