Patellar tendon rupture (PTR) is a rare and severe postoperative complication of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Even rarer is the intraoperative occurrence of PTR during TKA. PTR is a major complication as it can lead to chronic disability, functional limitations, and postoperative morbidity.

Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head: Core Decompression Systems.

Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a chronic progressive debilitating disease that often affects young and active patients. It results from vascular interruption to the femoral head and can be caused by trauma, chronic corticosteroid use, chronic alcoholism, and coagulopathies. Treatment includes core decompression, a surgical procedure that may help delay or forestall disease progression if performed at the early stages of the disease.

Relativistic bound state solutions and quantum information theory in D dimensions under exponential-type plus Yukawa potentials.

The bound-state solution of the radial Klein-Gordon equation has been obtained under the interaction of an exponential-type and Yukawa potential functions. The Greene-Aldrich approximation has been used to overcome the centrifugal barrier and enable the analytical solutions of the energy and wave functions in closed form. The momentum space wave function in D dimensions has been constructed using the Fourier transform.

Non-relativistic energy equations for diatomic molecules constrained in a deformed hyperbolic potential function.

Context: In this paper, the approximate analytical energy equations for the deformed hyperbolic potential have been obtained for arbitrary parameters of the potential. The potential function was transformed to a molecular potential by subjecting it to the Varshni conditions which allows for the determination of the energy levels of diatomic molecules. The molecular vibrational energy spectra for [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text] diatomic molecules were obtained and found to match with the results obtained with another analytical approach, potential functions, and experimental data.

Background: Lumbar laminectomy is a surgical procedure allowing for decompression of neural structures. A wide laminectomy to adequately decompress neural elements without compromising the structural integrity of the spinal column is ideal. Pars interarticularis fractures with spinal instability after isolated laminectomy from overresection of the posterior elements have been reported.

Critical analysis of the evaluation of postoperative dysphagia following an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion.

Background And Purpose: Postoperative dysphagia is a known complication of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) with reported incidences ranging from 1 to 79%. No standardized guidelines exist for spine surgeons to evaluate postoperative dysphagia after ACDF. A systematic method may be beneficial in distinguishing transient postoperative dysphagia secondary to intubation from those with postoperative complications.

Nonrelativistic solutions of Schrödinger equation and thermodynamic properties with the proposed modified Mobius square plus Eckart potential.

We obtain solutions of Schrödinger equation for the modified Mobius square plus Eckart (MMPSE) potential via the formula method. Numerical results are reported. In addition, the partition function and other thermodynamic properties such as vibrational free energy, , vibrational internal energy, , vibrational entropy, , and vibrational specific heat, are presented.

Nonrelativistic treatment of inversely quadratic Hellmann-Kratzer potential and thermodynamic properties.

The study presents approximate analytical solutions of the Schrödinger equation with a newly proposed potential model called Inversely Quadratic Hellmann-Kratzer potential (IQHKP). This potential is a superposition of Inversely Quadratic Hellman potential and Kratzer potential. The energy eigenvalues and corresponding wavefunction are calculated via the formula method.

The objectives were to determine the prevalence, pattern, and predictors of domestic abuse among pregnant women in Enugu, Nigeria.

Dirac equation and thermodynamic properties with the Modified Kratzer potential.

In this work, we present the analytical solutions of Dirac equation for modified Kratzer potential in the pseudospin and spin symmetry limits using the formula method. The energies of the pseudospin and spin symmetry limit are obtained analytically and numerically. The numerical values are compared with those obtained in literature.

Toward Development of Neuron Specific Transduction After Systemic Delivery of Viral Vectors.

Widespread transduction of the CNS with a single, non-invasive systemic injection of adeno-associated virus is now possible due to the creation of blood-brain barrier-permeable capsids. However, as these capsids are mutants of AAV9, they do not have specific neuronal tropism. Therefore, it is necessary to use genetic tools to restrict expression of the transgene to neuronal tissues.

Complications of a Unilateral Nondisplaced Cervical Facet Fracture in a Patient With Previously Noninstrumented Anterior Cervical Fusion.

Fused motion segments have been documented to alter the biomechanics of the cervical spine and compromise its stability. Current literature describes a growing association between the presence of prior noninstrumented fused cervical segments and the predisposition to acute, traumatic instability at adjacent levels. We present the case of a stable cervical spine fracture pattern in a patient with a history of multilevel noninstrumented anterior cervical spine fusion-initially presenting as a small, nondisplaced unilateral facet fracture that ultimately progressed to overt displacement with kyphosis resulting in acute cervical pain and instability.

Chronic treatment with galantamine rescues reversal learning in an attentional set-shifting test after experimental brain trauma.

Approximately 10 million new cases of traumatic brain injury (TBI) are reported each year worldwide with many of these injuries resulting in higher order cognitive impairments. Galantamine (GAL), an acetylcholine esterase inhibitor (AChEI) and positive allosteric modulator of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), has been reported to ameliorate cognitive deficits after clinical TBI. Previously, we demonstrated that controlled cortical impact (CCI) injury to rats resulted in significant executive function impairments as measured by the attentional set-shifting test (AST), a complex cognitive task analogous to the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST).

Gastrointestinal helminth parasites of local chickens from selected communities in Nsukka region of south eastern Nigeria.

The prevalence of gastrointestinal helminths of local chickens in Nsukka region of Southeastern Nigeria was studied using 125 free range local birds purchased from four communities in Nsukka zone namely, Obollo-afor, Orba, Nsukka urban and Owerre Eze-orba. The birds were sacrificed humanely and their oesophagus, crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine and caecum examined for the presence of gastrointestinal helminths. Worms when present were isolated and identified using standard parasitological procedures.
