Immune imprinting is a driver known to shape the anti-hemagglutinin (HA) antibody landscape of individuals born within the same birth cohort. With the HA and neuraminidase (NA) proteins evolving at different rates under immune selection pressures, anti-HA and anti-NA antibody responses since childhood influenza virus infections have not been evaluated in parallel at the individual level. This is partly due to the limited knowledge of changes in NA antigenicity, as seasonal influenza vaccines have focused on generating neutralizing anti-HA antibodies against HA antigenic variants.

Inhibition of the NACHT, LRR and PYD domains-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome has recently emerged as a promising therapeutic target for several inflammatory diseases. After priming and activation by inflammation triggers, NLRP3 forms a complex with apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD domain (ASC) followed by formation of the active inflammasome. Identification of inhibitors of NLRP3 activation requires a well-validated primary high-throughput assay followed by the deployment of a screening cascade of assays enabling studies of structure-activity relationship, compound selectivity and efficacy in disease models.

Nurses typically monitor their vital signs continuously using wearable sensors such as electrocardiogram (ECG) electrodes placed on their chest and a pulse oximeter on a limb. Amide derivatives of N-phthaloylglycine were synthesized under Schotten Baumann reaction condition. The structures of synthesized compounds (4a-d) were characterized by using FTIR, HNMR and EI-MS. Mountain environments in the world host highly specialized flora and fauna which are vulnerable because of land use and climate change. Transhumance and other land use traditional practices are present in most of the mountains of the world, and management tools able to cope with new socioeconomic settings and environmental changes are urgently needed. During past centuries, yak (Bos grunniens) herding in Northern Pakistan involved the migration of herds to high mountain international rangelands, but the recent establishment of international borders breaks the traditional transhumance paths, promoting several ecological problems.

Osteoclasts play key roles in bone remodeling and pathologic osteolytic disorders such as inflammation, infection, bone implant loosening, rheumatoid arthritis, metastatic bone cancers, and pathological fractures. Osteoclasts are formed by the fusion of monocytes in response to receptor activators of NF-κB-ligand (RANKL) and macrophage colony stimulating factor 1 (M-CSF). Calreticulin (CRT), a commonly known intracellular protein as a calcium-binding chaperone, has an unexpectedly robust anti-osteoclastogenic effect when its recombinant form is applied to osteoclast precursors in vitro or at the site of bone inflammation externally in vivo.

To study the association of impulsivity, high-risk behaviours and incidence of HIV infection in patients with alcohol dependence and bipolar mania. This was a cross-sectional hospital-based pilot study and the sample consisted of male patients divided into three groups: 25 patients with alcohol dependence and 25 with bipolar mania as per ICD-10 Diagnostic Criteria for Research and 25 normal controls. Severity of Alcohol Dependence Questionnaire (SADQ) and Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) were administered on alcohol dependent and bipolar patients, respectively.

Very old natural forests comprising the species of Fagaceae (Lithocarpus xylocarpus, Castanopsis wattii, Lithocarpus hancei) have been prevailing since years in the Ailaoshan Mountain Nature Reserve (AMNR) SW China. Within these forest trees, density is quite variable. We studied the forest structure, stand dynamics and carbon density at two different sites to know the main factors which drives carbon sequestration process in old forests by considering the following questions: How much is the carbon density in these forest trees of different DBH (diameter at breast height)? How much carbon potential possessed by dominant species of these forests? How vegetation carbon is distributed in these forests? Which species shows high carbon sequestration? What are the physiochemical properties of soil in these forests? Five-year (2005-2010) tree growth data from permanently established plots in the AMNR was analysed for species composition, density, stem diameter (DBH), height and carbon (C) density both in aboveground and belowground vegetation biomass.
