Background And Aims: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a major risk factor for non-communicable diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The risk of MetS can be transmitted via epigenetic processes from both the mother and the father. Therefore, it is essential that both members of a couple are targeted in pre-conception nutrition and physical activity-based lifestyle programs.

Integrating on-site pharmacists (OSPs) into this setting is a possible solution and is currently gaining traction in Australia and internationally. The Pharmacists in Residential Aged Care Facilities (PiRACF) cluster-randomised controlled trial integrated pharmacists into the RACF care team to improve medication management.

Although MetS risk is transferred via the epigenome from both biological parents, periconceptional lifestyle interventions are generally directed towards mothers. There is a need for interventions to reflect the shared nature of epigenetic MetS risk between both biological parents.

In the current proposed method, Pb was complexed with a chelating agent (dithizone), whereas an ionic liquid (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate) was used for extraction purpose. The ultrasonic irradiation and electrical shaking system were applied to enhance the dispersion and extraction of Pb complex in aqueous samples.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA simple vortex-assisted modified dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction procedure is proposed for the enrichment of cadmium (Cd+2) in surface (stored rainwater) and groundwater of the Tharparkar district in Pakistan, before analysis by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. Ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate was used as a ligand to make a hydrophobic complex of Cd+2, which was extracted in an ionic liquid (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate), and the nonionic surfactant Triton X-114 was applied as a dispersing medium. The contents of tubes were shaken for different time intervals on a vortex mixer to enhance extraction efficiency.

The complexation of Pb was executed by means of the complexing agent, ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (APDC), whereas extraction was carried out through the ionic liquid (IL), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate. Ultrasound energy was used for the dispersion and extraction of the metal complex into an IL because it enhances the extraction of the metal complex into infinite IL drops at a temperature range of 40-80°C for 1-5 min.

This work reports the application of banana peel as a novel bioadsorbent for in vitro removal of five mycotoxins (aflatoxins (AFB1, AFB2, AFG1, AFG2) and ochratoxin A). The effect of operational parameters including initial pH, adsorbent dose, contact time and temperature were studied in batch adsorption experiments. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and point of zero charge (pHpzc) analysis were used to characterise the adsorbent material.

Further confirmation of the pesticide residue was done by GC-MS. The pesticide residual level in raw and UHT milk samples (n = 70) was determined in the range of 0.

The objective of the current study was to investigate the efficacy of ultra-violet irradiation for decontamination of ochratoxin A (OTA) in spiked and naturally contaminated poultry feed samples. Spiked and naturally contaminated feed samples were irradiated with ultra-violet light (UV) at distance of 25 cm over the feed samples.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA study was conducted to evaluate the occurrence of ochratoxin A (OTA) in complete poultry feeds (n=80) and poultry feed ingredients (n=286) from Pakistan. All samples were first analyzed by indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), samples with OTA concentrations above the European Union maximum regulatory limit (MRL, 100 μg/kg) were further confirmed by HPLC-FLD. Contamination frequency and mean OTA levels were 31% and 51 μg/kg in feed ingredients, and the corresponding values for complete feeds were 38% and 75 μg/kg.

Two hundred and fifteen broiler poultry feed samples were analysed over the time period of one year for the co-occurrence of aflatoxins and deoxynivalenol (DON). These were determined by GC-MS and ELISA, respectively. LOD values for aflatoxins and DON were 0.

The synthesized polymer was thoroughly characterized by FT-IR, TGA, and SEM. The adsorption properties of the MIP and NIP were demonstrated by equilibrium rebinding experiments, pseudo-second-order kinetic model, LF-isotherm and Scatchard analysis.

Due to its very high proportion of nitrogen melamine has been added illegitimately to foods and feeds to increase the measured protein content, which determines the value of the product. These issues prompted private as well as governmental laboratories to develop methods for the analysis of melamine in a wide variety of food products and ingredients.

The imprinted polymer was employed for solid-phase extraction of DEHP from water samples of environmental importance and characterized by FT-IR and SEM. The adsorption properties of the imprinted polymer were demonstrated by equilibrium rebinding experiments, Pseudo-second-order kinetic model, Sips isotherm and Scatchard analysis.
