Featuring ultra-high sensitivity and molecule-specific detection ability, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is suitable for the rapid sensing of trace-level chemicals in biological, environmental, and agricultural samples. Although crystal facet junction engineering is a powerful tool to manipulate the optoelectronic properties of semiconducting materials, its correlation with the SERS sensing activity of noble metal/semiconductor composites has still not been clarified. In this work, Ag was deposited on CuO nanocrystals enclosed by different facets, including {100} (cube), {111} (octahedron), and {100}/{111} (truncated octahedron), and a detailed study of their SERS performance was carried out.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major cause of chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. Antibody development efforts mainly revolve around HCV envelope glycoprotein 2 (E2), which mediates host cell entry by interacting with several cell surface receptors, including CD81. We still have limited knowledge about the structural ensembles and the dynamic behavior of both the CD81 binding sites and the glycans on E2.

The composites composed of hyaluronic acid (HA) and silk fibroin (SF) exhibit great potential in diverse biomedical applications. However, the utilization of commercial crosslinkers such as 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE) for crosslinking HA typically necessitates harsh conditions involving strong alkaline, which greatly limits its potential applications. In this study, a mild modified approach was developed to fabricate HA/SF blend sponges crosslinked by BDDE without alkaline conditions.

Herein, we develop a magnetic, hydrophobic, and lipophilic hyperporous elastic material (HEM) templated by high internal phase emulsions (HIPE), in which free-radical polymerization of butyl acrylate (BA) and divinylbenzene (DVB) is employed in the presence of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), lecithin surfactant, and modified FeO nanoparticles. The adoption of the emulsion template with nanoparticles as both stabilizers and cross-linkers endows the HEM with biomimetic hierarchical open-cell micropores and elastic cross-linked networks, generating an oil absorbent with outstanding mechanical stability.

Results indicated that a change in spatial conformation and aggregation structure of the starch-gluten system was induced with heating (30 °C-86 °C). Moderately increased B starch ratio can effectively fill the gluten network and improve starch-protein interactions, which promotes the free sulfhydryl group oxidation and results in the formation of more glutenin macropolymer; this contributes to a higher degree of cross-linking and stability to the gluten network matrix.
