Study Objective: We developed an innovative method for ultrasound-assisted thoracic epidural catheter placement and assessed its potential to reduce procedural duration for trainees.
Design: A cadaveric observational study and a clinical randomized controlled trial.
Setting: Sapporo Medical University Hospital.
Purpose: Suvorexant is an orexin receptor antagonist used in the treatment of insomnia. In this study, we investigated the urinary excretion profiles of suvorexant and its major metabolites, including conjugates, to obtain fundamental information for proving exposure to suvorexant in criminal cases.
Methods: Urine specimens were collected from three subjects for maximum 168 h after a single oral ingestion of suvorexant (10 mg), and suvorexant and its metabolites in urine were determined using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry with a C18 semi-micro column.

Region-specific roles of this molecule are associated with psychiatric disorders. Under the following three different dyeing conditions, (1) semi-permanent coloring, (2) permanent coloring (once), (3) permanent coloring (twice), drug distributions in single hair specimens were investigated using a 2-mm segmental analysis by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Distribution shapes of drugs changed significantly only under the permanent coloring (twice) condition, resulting in reduced peak concentration and extended distribution width.

A non-photochromic diarylethene 2o with an N-phenylaza-15-crown-5 was synthesized. When the nitrogen atom in the aza-crown ring was protonated, it became photochromic due to the prevention of a twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT). Although addition of a monovalent metal cation (Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Cu, Ag) in acetonitrile could not stop the TICT so that it was not photochromic, the addition of a multivalent metal cation (Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Fe, Ni, Al, Sb) changed 2o to be photochromic due to the strong attraction of the lone pair on the nitrogen atom.

We investigated the associations of urinary levels of cortisol or catecholamines with those of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine, a marker of oxidative DNA damage in primary hypertension.
Methods: Untreated 156 primary hypertensives without apparent cardiovascular diseases were entered into the study.
Background: Vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS) because of COL3A1 mutations is a rare inherited collagen vascular disease associated with spontaneous arterial dissections, aneurysms, vessel rupture, and organ rupture. A direct carotid-cavernous fistula (CCF) is the most common central nervous system vascular anomaly in vEDS; however, its treatment is challenging due to extremely fragile arteries and veins.
Observations: A 22-year-old woman presented with pulsatile tinnitus and mild diplopia.
Background: Although bicruciate stabilized total knee arthroplasty (BCS-TKA) is expected to provide kinematics similar to those of the normal knee, there are limited data available for comparison of the kinematics of the knee after BCS-TKA with those of the normal knee. The purpose of this study was to confirm whether the knee after BCS-TKA are the same as those of the native knee.
Methods: Seven fresh-frozen cadavers underwent TKA using a BCS-type prosthesis with navigation system.

To investigate the metabolism and excretion of BocMA, metabolism tests were conducted using human liver microsomes (HLM), rat liver microsomes (RLM) and rat.
Methods: BocMA metabolites were analyzed after 1000-ng/mL BocMA incubation with microsomes for 3, 8, 13, 20, 30, and 60 min.
Transforaminal full-endoscopic spine surgery (TF-FESS) is a novel minimally invasive spine surgery that requires only an 8-mm skin incision and causes minimal damage to the paravertebral muscles. To perform TF-FESS safely and efficiently, preoperative planning is quite important as the intervention requires anatomical understanding and high technical skills.
